Network-reachable with no privileges; user interaction required (browser redirect); scope change to subsequent cloud system with high confidentiality loss via IAM credentials and low integrity via open redirect.

Gradio before 6.20.0 contains an open redirect and server-side request forgery vulnerability that allows attackers to redirect users to arbitrary URLs or perform client-side SSRF by supplying unvalidated HTTP/HTTPS URLs to the file_fetch() function in the /gradio_api/file= endpoint. Attackers can craft a malicious FileData response targeting internal endpoints such as cloud metadata services to retrieve sensitive credentials including EC2 IAM role credentials.
AnalysisAI
Open redirect and client-side SSRF in Gradio before 6.20.0 expose cloud infrastructure credentials to network attackers via the /gradio_api/file= endpoint. The file_fetch() function accepts unvalidated HTTP/HTTPS URLs from attacker-controlled FileData responses, enabling redirection of victim browsers to arbitrary destinations including cloud metadata services such as the EC2 instance metadata endpoint (169.254.169.254). …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that the attacker can influence or inject a FileData object containing an attacker-controlled HTTP/HTTPS URL into the Gradio application's response flow - for example, by controlling a model output that returns a FileData structure, or by crafting a shareable Gradio app link. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 base score of 4.9 (Medium) reflects the balanced risk profile: low attack complexity and no privilege requirement are offset by the requirement for passive user interaction (UI:P) and an attack requirement (AT:P), likely the need to insert a malicious FileData URL into the application flow. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker embeds a crafted FileData object with a url pointing to http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/iam/security-credentials/ in a shared Gradio application link. When a legitimate user visits the app and the front end processes the FileData response, the user's browser is redirected to the metadata endpoint, returning temporary AWS IAM role credentials that the attacker can capture via a CORS-aware exfiltration technique or by observing the browser's network traffic. … |
| Remediation | The primary fix is to upgrade Gradio to version 6.20.0 or later, which introduces validation of URLs supplied to file_fetch() to block unvalidated HTTP/HTTPS redirects. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
