SiYuan is an open-source personal knowledge management system. Prior to 3.7.0, Lute's HTML sanitizer does not remove <iframe> elements. Combined with the SiYuan Electron client's permissive security configuration, an attacker can include a malicious <iframe> in a Bazaar package README that executes arbitrary commands on the victim's machine when the package details are viewed. No package installation is required. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.7.0.
AnalysisAI
Arbitrary command execution in the SiYuan Electron desktop client (versions prior to 3.7.0) allows a remote attacker to run OS commands on a victim's machine when they merely view a malicious Bazaar marketplace package's README. The root cause is that Lute's HTML sanitizer fails to strip <iframe> elements, which combine with the Electron client's permissive security settings (e.g. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires three concrete conditions: (1) the victim runs the SiYuan Electron desktop client (not a hardened web deployment), whose permissive security configuration permits an embedded iframe to reach OS-level execution; (2) the attacker can place a malicious <iframe> inside a Bazaar marketplace package README; and (3) the victim views that package's details page - passive user interaction (UI:P) is the gating factor, but package installation is explicitly NOT required. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N, score 8.7 High) indicates a network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated attack with full impact to the victim system, gated only by passive user interaction (viewing a package). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker publishes (or modifies) a SiYuan Bazaar package whose README embeds a crafted <iframe> pointing at content that abuses the Electron client's Node-enabled context. When a victim browsing the marketplace simply opens the package's details to evaluate it, the iframe renders and executes arbitrary OS commands under the victim's account - no install click required. … |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: upgrade SiYuan to version 3.7.0 or later, which fixes Lute's sanitizer to strip <iframe> elements; see the advisory at https://github.com/siyuan-note/siyuan/security/advisories/GHSA-r6v5-4c66-f6pw. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
