Exploitation Conditions

The victim must be an authenticated Jenkins user (any role that has permission to access or trigger the Contrast plugin configuration endpoint) and must visit an attacker-controlled page while their Jenkins session is active in the same browser. The Jenkins instance must have the Contrast Continuous Application Security Plugin version 3.11 or earlier installed and active. No special network position is required for the attacker beyond being able to serve a web page to the victim. Exploitation is limited by the requirement for victim interaction - the attack cannot be performed without the user visiting the malicious page - and by the need for the victim to hold an active, valid Jenkins session at the time of the forged request.

Impact

The NVD CVSS vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N scores 5.4 Medium. However, the PR:L/UI:N combination is atypical for a CSRF: CSRF attacks require the victim to be an authenticated user who visits an attacker-controlled page, which normally maps to PR:N (attacker has no privileges) and UI:R (victim interaction is essential). The provided vector omits the user-interaction requirement - this inconsistency should be verified with the Jenkins security team. SSVC signals reinforce a lower prioritisation: exploitation is rated 'none', automation is rated 'no' (social engineering of a Jenkins user is required), and technical impact is only partial. EPSS data is not provided. The vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV, and no POC is publicly available. Real-world risk is moderate: the primary danger is server-side request forgery (SSRF-lite), where Jenkins can be redirected to reach internal network endpoints under attacker-controlled credentials, potentially leaking whether those endpoints exist or accepting crafted Contrast API responses.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker identifies a Jenkins instance using the Contrast plugin and social-engineers a logged-in Jenkins user into visiting a malicious web page. That page silently submits a forged POST request to the Jenkins Contrast plugin configuration endpoint, substituting the Contrast service URL and credentials with attacker-controlled values. Jenkins then attempts to connect to the attacker's server, potentially exposing internal network topology or accepting a malicious Contrast API response.

AnalysisAIv1 – Jun 24, 2026

Cross-site request forgery in Jenkins Contrast Continuous Application Security Plugin 3.11 and earlier allows a remote attacker to force a Jenkins instance to establish outbound connections to an arbitrary attacker-controlled URL, supplying attacker-chosen credentials including a username, API key, and service key. Any authenticated Jenkins user can be the unwitting victim if tricked into visiting a crafted page while logged in. No public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis, and SSVC rates exploitation likelihood as none with partial technical impact.

RemediationAI

Upgrade the Contrast Continuous Application Security Plugin to a version higher than 3.11 as directed by the Jenkins security advisory at https://www.jenkins.io/security/advisory/2026-06-24/#SECURITY-3697%20(1). The advisory does not specify an exact fixed release version in the provided intelligence - affected organisations should check the Jenkins Plugin Manager or the Jenkins Update Center for the latest available release and confirm it addresses SECURITY-3697. If an immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict access to Jenkins configuration pages so that only highly trusted administrators can modify plugin settings, reducing the pool of users whose sessions could be exploited. Additionally, enforcing Jenkins's built-in CSRF protection globally (enabled by default in modern Jenkins LTS) and ensuring users do not browse untrusted sites while authenticated to Jenkins are practical interim compensating controls, though neither eliminates the underlying flaw.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The Jenkins Contrast Continuous Application Security Plugin integrates Jenkins CI/CD pipelines with Contrast Security's application security testing platform. It stores connection parameters - URL, username, API key, and service key - and uses them to communicate with the Contrast service. CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery) indicates the plugin's configuration or connection-trigger endpoints lack anti-CSRF token validation, meaning the Jenkins HTTP endpoint can be invoked by a forged cross-origin browser request. The affected CPE is cpe:2.3:a:jenkins_project:jenkins_contrast_continuous_application_security_plugin:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, covering all versions up to and including 3.11. Because Jenkins itself enforces a CSRF protection framework (crumbs), plugin endpoints that bypass or omit this check represent a gap in that defence.
