MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Attacker must have a valid TYPO3 backend user account (PR:L) that is assigned at least one file mount with write capability; exploitation occurs against the root folder of that assigned mount via the standard Filelist module move/delete/rename operations. No user interaction by another user is required (UI:N), no special TYPO3 extension or non-default configuration is needed beyond the standard backend file mount feature being in use, and the backend interface must be network-reachable to the attacker. Limiting factors: the attack does not work for fully anonymous users, does not affect frontend users, and only impacts installations that actually rely on file mounts as a security boundary between backend editors - single-admin installations have no meaningful privilege boundary to cross. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:H/VA:L) reflects a network-reachable, low-complexity attack requiring low privileges (an authenticated backend user with file mount access) and no user interaction, with high impact to integrity and lower impact to confidentiality and availability. SSVC-style judgment: exploitation is straightforward via the normal backend UI/API once authenticated, automatable in principle, and technical impact is partial (data destruction within the storage scope rather than full system compromise). No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public POC was supplied, so this is not a confirmed in-the-wild threat - risk is driven by the privilege escalation path it gives to insiders or compromised low-trust editor accounts on multi-tenant TYPO3 installations. The 7.2 rating may overstate real-world urgency for single-tenant deployments where all backend users are already trusted, but is appropriate for shared hosting, agency, or community-edited TYPO3 sites where file mounts are a security boundary. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker with stolen or assigned low-privilege TYPO3 backend credentials that include any file mount assignment opens the Filelist module and issues a rename or delete request against the mount's root folder, causing destruction or relocation of content that the editor should not have been able to touch. In a shared agency or multi-tenant TYPO3 installation, one tenant's editor could thus damage another tenant's storage root if the same storage is mapped across mounts, or sabotage shared asset directories. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, but the trigger is a normal authenticated backend action and requires no special tooling. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Jun 09, 2026
Authorization bypass in TYPO3 CMS allows non-privileged backend users with file mount access to perform write operations (move, delete, rename) on the root folders of their assigned file mounts, which were intended to be protected. The flaw affects TYPO3 versions before 10.4.57, 11.0.0-11.5.50, 12.0.0-12.4.45, 13.0.0-13.4.30, and 14.0.0-14.3.2, with CVSS 4.0 score 7.2 (High). No public exploit identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patches are available: upgrade to TYPO3 10.4.57, 11.5.51, 12.4.46, 13.4.31, or 14.3.3 or later, depending on your branch, as published in TYPO3-CORE-SA-2026-007 (https://typo3.org/security/advisory/typo3-core-sa-2026-007). The fix is implemented in commits 504e72470ff72aaf5d2256878bf473747f389798 and ac4125aef8b9b94528a7f74db2444db57b05a87b, which add an explicit mount-root check denying move, delete, and rename actions. Where immediate patching is not possible, compensating controls include auditing backend user groups to remove file mount assignments from any account that does not strictly need write access, restricting backend access to trusted networks via webserver ACLs or BE/IPmaskList, and ensuring file mount root folders are also protected at the underlying filesystem level (read-only mounts or OS permissions) - the trade-off being that filesystem-level read-only enforcement will also block legitimate writes inside the mount, so it is only viable for genuinely read-only document libraries.

Technical ContextAI · show details
TYPO3 is an enterprise PHP-based open-source content management system. The vulnerability resides in the ResourceStorage component (typo3/sysext/core/Classes/Resource/ResourceStorage.php), which manages backend file abstraction layer (FAL) permissions. File mounts are a TYPO3 access control primitive that restrict editors to specific filesystem subtrees. The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): the checkFolderActionPermission() routine did not include a check distinguishing whether a target folder was itself the configured root of a file mount, so destructive folder actions on the mount boundary were not denied. The patch introduces isFileMountFolder() and isAllowedActionOnMountFolder() helpers that explicitly block 'move', 'delete', and 'rename' against any folder identified as a mount root.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
Non-privileged backend users with file mount access were able to perform write operations (move, delete, rename) on folders representing the root of an active file mount due to missing authorization restrictions. This issue affects TYPO3 CMS versions before 10.4.57, 11.0.0 through 11.5.50, 12.0.0 through 12.4.45, 13.0.0 through 13.4.30, and 14.0.0 through 14.3.2.
Executive ViewAI
TYPO3 CMS versions up to 14.3.2 contain a high-severity authorization bypass (CVE-2026-47343, CVSS 7.2) that permits backend users to modify files they lack authorization to change, creating risk of unauthorized file manipulation and potential system compromise. Organizations must immediately audit TYPO3 deployments and restrict file mount access pending vendor patch release.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: (1) Revoke file mount access from users who do not require it, (2) Configure mounts to specific subdirectories rather than root-level access, (3) Deploy file integrity monitoring on protected directories, (4) Require multi-factor authentication for all backend accounts with file mount privileges.
