DescriptionCVE.org

The e-shot™ form builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Missing Authorization in all versions up to and including 1.0.2. The eshot_form_builder_update_field_data() AJAX handler lacks any capability checks (current_user_can()) or nonce verification (check_ajax_referer()/wp_verify_nonce()). The function is registered via the wp_ajax_ hook, making it accessible to any authenticated user. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to modify form field configurations including mandatory status, field visibility, and form display preferences via the eshot_form_builder_update_field_data AJAX action.

AnalysisAI

Authenticated users with Subscriber-level access or above can modify WordPress form field configurations in the e-shot form builder plugin (versions up to 1.0.2) due to missing authorization checks in the eshot_form_builder_update_field_data AJAX handler. The function lacks both capability checks and nonce verification, allowing attackers to manipulate form field properties such as mandatory status, visibility, and display preferences without proper permission validation. No public exploit code or active exploitation has been confirmed at this time.

Technical ContextAI

The vulnerability exists in the WordPress AJAX handler registration for the eshot_form_builder_update_field_data action. The e-shot form builder plugin registers this AJAX endpoint via the wp_ajax_ hook, which by default grants access to any authenticated user (including Subscriber roles). The root cause (CWE-862: Missing Authorization) stems from the function's failure to invoke WordPress capability checking functions (current_user_can()) or nonce validation (check_ajax_referer() or wp_verify_nonce()). This means the code does not verify that the requesting user has the appropriate permissions or that the request originated from a legitimate, intended source. The vulnerable code is located in the admin class at line 656 of class-eshotformbuilder-admin.php, where the AJAX handler processes field update requests without authorization gates. The CPE identifier cpe:2.3:a:forfront:e-shot:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* indicates all versions of the e-shot form builder are affected through at least version 1.0.2.

RemediationAI

Users should immediately update the e-shot form builder plugin to a version newer than 1.0.2 when available from the plugin author or WordPress Plugin Repository. The plugin developer should release a patched version that adds proper capability checks (current_user_can() with administrator or appropriate custom capability) and nonce verification (wp_verify_nonce() or check_ajax_referer()) to the eshot_form_builder_update_field_data AJAX handler. Until a patched version is released, site administrators can mitigate risk by restricting user roles on the WordPress installation, disabling user registration if not required, or deactivating the e-shot form builder plugin if it is not actively in use. Monitor the plugin's WordPress repository page at https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/e-shot-form-builder/ and the Wordfence advisory for patch availability announcements.
