Exploitation Conditions

The ai-sdlc MCP server (through 0.31.2) must be running and exposing the check-issue and/or check-pr-status tools, and the attacker must control the 'repo' argument passed to them - realistically achieved by prompt-injecting the AI agent that invokes the MCP server, since the description attributes exploitation to 'prompt-injected agents'. The injection point is the unvalidated repo value interpolated into 'gh issue view' / 'gh pr view' executed via execSync(). Limiting factors: the CVSS vector is local (AV:L) and requires low privileges (PR:L), i.e. the ability to invoke the MCP tool, not open remote network access; there is no user-interaction requirement (UI:N). Commands execute with the privileges of the MCP server user, so impact is bounded by that account.

Impact

The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (8.5, High) encodes a local attack vector (AV:L), low attack complexity (AC:L), low privileges required (PR:L), no user interaction (UI:N), and high impact to confidentiality, integrity and availability of the vulnerable system (VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) with no scope change to other systems (SC:N/SI:N/SA:N). The AV:L and PR:L metrics are the key tempering signals: this is not a remote, unauthenticated internet-facing flaw but an OS command injection reachable by whoever (or whatever agent) can feed the 'repo' argument into the MCP server's check-issue/check-pr-status tools, which the description frames as a prompt-injected AI agent triggering execSync() interpolation. No EPSS score and no KEV listing are present in the input, so there is no evidence of active or widespread exploitation; by the precision rules this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' (a VulnCheck advisory and the patch commit are referenced, but no reference is marked as working exploit code). The vuln.today decision label is 'this_week' - not act_now or emergency - which aligns with a genuinely serious code-execution bug that is nonetheless gated behind local/agent-mediated access rather than mass-exploitable remotely. Net: a real priority to patch promptly (a patch is available), but the high CVSS is driven by impact rather than by easy reachability, and the practical trigger depends on an attacker controlling the agent or the repo input.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who can influence the AI agent driving the ai-sdlc MCP server (for example via prompt injection in a document, issue, or PR the agent processes) induces the agent to call the check-issue or check-pr-status tool with a 'repo' value containing shell metacharacters. Because the unvalidated value is string-interpolated into a 'gh issue view' / 'gh pr view' command executed through execSync(), the injected metacharacters run arbitrary OS commands as the MCP server user. No public exploit is identified at time of analysis, though VulnCheck published an advisory and the fixing commit is public.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026

OS command injection in the ai-sdlc plugin MCP server (versions through 0.31.2) allows an attacker who can control the 'repo' argument of the check-issue or check-pr-status tools to run arbitrary shell commands with the privileges of the MCP server user. The unvalidated repo value is interpolated into 'gh issue view' / 'gh pr view' strings executed through execSync(), so a prompt-injected AI agent invoking the tool can turn a crafted repository name into command execution on the host. The vendor has published a fix (commit 717d7ec) and the issue is tracked as EUVD-2026-110836; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and priority guidance places remediation in the current week (this_week).

RemediationAI

Upgrade the ai-sdlc plugin/MCP server to a release that includes commit 717d7ecf068b714f65955e50fcf5cb4f9a0b5070 (https://github.com/ai-sdlc-framework/ai-sdlc/commit/717d7ecf068b714f65955e50fcf5cb4f9a0b5070); the vendor reports a patch is available, and the commit validates the repo argument and replaces the shell-based execSync call with execFileSync so the value is passed as a separate argv element. Confirm the release tag you deploy actually contains that commit, since no explicit fixed version number is published in the available data and 0.31.2 is confirmed vulnerable. If upgrading cannot be done this week, reduce exposure by not exposing the check-issue and check-pr-status tools to agents that process untrusted content, or by running the MCP server under a dedicated low-privilege account with no credentials or filesystem reach beyond what the gh CLI needs - both approaches cost functionality and do not fix the underlying interpolation bug, so they are stopgaps only. Additional context is in the upstream issue at https://github.com/ai-sdlc-framework/ai-sdlc/issues/1970 and the VulnCheck advisory at https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/ai-sdlc-mcp-server-through-0.31.2-command-injection-via-check-issue-and-check-pr-status.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The ai-sdlc framework ships an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server bundled with its plugin, exposing tools such as check-issue and check-pr-status that shell out to the GitHub CLI. The vulnerable code path takes the caller-supplied 'repo' value and concatenates it into the command string passed to Node.js execSync(), which runs the string through a shell; shell metacharacters in 'repo' therefore escape the intended 'gh issue view' / 'gh pr view' invocation. This is CWE-78 (improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command), and the 0.31.2 tagged source for check-issue.ts lines 15-19 is cited as the affected code. Because the tool arguments are typically produced by an LLM agent, the practical injection vector is prompt injection: untrusted content the agent reads can redirect the repo argument into an arbitrary command. The vendor's commit addresses it by validating the repo argument against a schema/regex before use and by moving to execFileSync with the repo as a separate argv element, which removes the shell from the path. The scoring is local (AV:L) with low privileges (PR:L) and no user interaction (UI:N), reflecting that an attacker needs the ability to invoke the MCP tool rather than remote network reachability, and command execution is bounded by the MCP server's account.

DescriptionCVE.org

The ai-sdlc plugin MCP server through 0.31.2 contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows attackers to execute commands by supplying shell metacharacters in the repo argument. The unvalidated repo value is interpolated into gh issue view or gh pr view commands run via execSync(), letting prompt-injected agents execute commands as the MCP server user.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

The ai-sdlc plugin MCP server (versions through 0.31.2) contains an OS command injection vulnerability that can be triggered via prompt-injected AI agents, potentially allowing arbitrary command execution on the host. This affects development and operations teams using the plugin, and leadership should prioritize remediation due to the risk of host compromise and unauthorized access to repository data.
