2 techniques across 2 tactics: Discovery, Collection The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated Mautic API account that holds permission to create assets, and the Asset API must be enabled/reachable. The attacker creates a local asset whose supplied file path is not constrained to the asset upload directory, then publishes it so its public download URL serves the target file; any file readable by the web server user (notably Mautic's local configuration containing DB password, secret key, and SMTP credentials) can be exfiltrated. Limiting factors: the PR:L authentication-plus-asset-creation-permission gate, and that the leaked download URL must then be requested (though that final retrieval is unauthenticated and public). The vendor states there are no official workarounds; interim mitigations are to disable API access or restrict asset-creation permission to trusted administrators and to review existing local assets for paths outside the upload directory - upgrading is the only complete fix. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-priority issue whose real-world risk is shaped more by access prerequisites than by raw impact. The provided CVSS vector (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, 6.5) is internally consistent with the description: the attack is network-reachable (AV:N) through the Asset API, low-complexity (AC:L), and requires a low-privilege authenticated account with asset-creation permission (PR:L), with high confidentiality impact (C:H) and no integrity or availability impact. The PR:L requirement is the dominant limiting factor - this is not an unauthenticated flaw, so it favors insiders or attackers who have already obtained valid API credentials. Exploitation status is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis': the only reference is the vendor GHSA advisory, not a PoC or exploit, and there is no KEV listing. No EPSS score was supplied, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified from the input. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month', consistent with a serious-but-not-emergency bug: credential disclosure is severe (leaked DB password, secret key, SMTP credentials can enable follow-on compromise and lateral movement), but the authentication gate keeps it below drop-everything urgency. Net: a genuine credential-exposure risk warranting scheduled patching within the maintenance window rather than an emergency, with the caveat that any environment where API access is broadly granted raises the effective risk materially. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker holding a low-privilege Mautic account with asset-creation permission calls the Asset API to create a local asset whose file path points outside the upload directory (e.g. the Mautic local configuration file), then publishes the asset. The resulting public download URL serves that file's contents without authentication, exposing the database password, secret key, and SMTP credentials to anyone who has the URL. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis; the only reference is the vendor advisory. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 26, 2026
Path traversal in Mautic's Asset API lets an authenticated API user with asset-creation permission register a file outside the asset upload directory and publish it so its public download URL exposes arbitrary files readable by the web server, including Mautic configuration secrets. The affected composer/mautic/core branches are fixed in 7.2.2, 6.0.10, and 5.2.12; no public exploit was identified at the time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to the fixed release for the deployed branch: 7.2.2, 6.0.10, or 5.2.12. The vendor states there are no official workarounds and that upgrading is the only complete fix. If upgrading is not immediately possible, disable API access or restrict asset-creation permission to trusted administrative users, and review existing local assets for file paths outside the asset upload directory; disabling the API can disrupt integrations, and restricting permissions can block delegated asset workflows, while neither addresses the underlying path validation flaw. Vendor advisory: https://github.com/mautic/mautic/security/advisories/GHSA-wfhm-289v-79vp.
Affected ProductsAI
Mautic (composer/mautic/core) versions from 2.3.0 up to but not including 5.2.12, from 6.0.0 up to but not including 6.0.10, and from 7.0.0 up to but not including 7.2.2 are affected. Fixed releases are 5.2.12, 6.0.10, and 7.2.2 respectively. No CPE strings were provided in the available data. Vendor advisory: https://github.com/mautic/mautic/security/advisories/GHSA-wfhm-289v-79vp. Legacy Mautic 4 security support is directed to the vendor's ELTS page.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The issue is CWE-22 path traversal in Mautic's local asset creation flow. The Asset API accepts a supplied file path for a local asset but does not constrain it to the asset upload directory, so an authenticated API account holding asset-creation permission can register any file readable by the PHP/web server process as an asset. Once the asset is published, Mautic exposes it through a public download URL that serves the file contents without authentication. This turns a low-privilege asset-management permission into arbitrary file read, with particular risk to Mautic's local configuration containing the database password, secret key, and SMTP credentials. The advisory identifies affected composer/mautic/core version ranges but does not describe the specific code-level validation gap or exact API endpoint; the trigger described is the unconstrained local asset path plus publication of the asset.

DescriptionCVE.org
A path traversal vulnerability exists in the Mautic Asset API. When creating a local asset through the API, the supplied file path is not restricted to the asset upload directory. An authenticated API user with permission to create assets can register any file that is readable by the web server process as a Mautic asset. When the asset is published, its public download URL serves the contents of that file without authentication. This allows the attacker to read arbitrary files from the server, including Mautic configuration files containing the database password, secret key, and mail (SMTP) credentials, as well as system files and any other file readable by the web server user. Exposed credentials can be used to access the database or other connected services, and anyone with the public asset URL can retrieve the file contents.
