| Impact | This is a moderate-severity, precondition-heavy supply-chain-style flaw rather than a drive-by remote exploit. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:A/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:N/SI:H/SA:H, 6.2) shows that while the metadata is fetched over the network (AV:N, AC:L), exploitation requires attacker privileges (PR:L - push access to the shared checkpoints repository) and active victim interaction (UI:A - the victim must run resume or rewind). Impact is concentrated on the subsequent system: integrity and availability high (SI:H/SA:H) because arbitrary host files can be overwritten, with no confidentiality loss (VC:N/SC:N). Exploitation status: no public exploit identified at time of analysis - the three references are the GHSA advisory and two patch pull requests (code fixes, not exploit code), and the input provides no KEV listing and no EPSS score. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month' (not act_now/emergency), consistent with a real-but-not-urgent issue gated behind push access and a user action. There is no signal conflict here: every source points to a serious-if-triggered arbitrary file write whose real-world exposure is sharply limited by the need for both repository push rights and a victim-initiated resume/rewind. EPSS is absent, so probabilistic exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified from the provided data. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 23, 2026
Path traversal in Entire CLI 0.7.6 and earlier lets a collaborator who can push to the shared entire/checkpoints/v1 branch overwrite arbitrary files on another user's machine: when the victim runs entire session resume or entire checkpoint rewind, a crafted SessionID in checkpoint metadata is used to build restore filesystem paths without validation, so attacker-controlled transcript data is written outside the expected session directory. Both the push access to the checkpoints branch and the victim's explicit invocation of resume/rewind are required, which keeps this a precondition-heavy, supply-chain-style issue rather than a drive-by exploit; no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis, and notification is tracked as a moderate-priority this-month item. Successful abuse yields high integrity impact on other systems' components (scope change) and limited availability impact.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Entire CLI 0.7.7 (or 0.7.8-nightly.*), which adds SessionID/agent ID validation and traversal-resistant path construction at the resume and rewind restore choke points; the fix is delivered via PR #1365 and PR #1449 and documented in advisory GHSA-2h46-9x5w-4wf7. If upgrading immediately is not possible, the vendor's workarounds (which reduce but do not fully remove exposure, since upgrading is the complete fix) are: do not run entire session resume or entire checkpoint rewind on repositories where untrusted users can push to entire/checkpoints/v1; restrict push access to shared repositories until all collaborators have upgraded, at the cost of blocking normal checkpoint collaboration; inspect the entire/checkpoints/v1 branch for suspicious checkpoint metadata before resuming or rewinding, which relies on manual review rather than enforcement; and remove or protect shell initialization files and other sensitive user-writable files where feasible, which narrows the arbitrary-file-write targets but does not address the traversal itself.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Entire CLI is a Go command-line tool (go/github.com/entireio/cli) that hooks into Git workflows to capture AI coding agent sessions, so a session's history can be stored as checkpoint metadata and later restored. Checkpoint metadata is fetched from the remote entire/checkpoints/v1 branch and the SessionID field from that metadata was passed into per-agent path construction without validation in the restore path (CWE-22 path traversal, with CWE-73 external control of file name or path as the underlying class). The sink behaviour differs per agent integration: Codex's ResolveSessionFile returns an absolute session ID verbatim, Copilot CLI uses the ID as a directory component (<dir>/<id>/events.jsonl, so a bare .. escapes without any separator), and the Pi lifecycle path builds a transcript destination from the hook-supplied session ID. The upstream fix (PR #1365, plus #1449) adds a shared validation package: ValidateSessionID rejects absolute paths and .., ValidateAgentID gates IDs extracted from transcript text, and validation is enforced at the restore choke points (transcript.resolveTranscriptPath and strategy.RestoreLogsOnly) plus at per-agent capture points, together with regression tests pinning the Codex verbatim-absolute and Copilot directory-component behaviours.

Malicious metadata arrives over the network (AV:N/AC:L) but needs push access (PR:L) and a victim-run resume/rewind (UI:R); escaping the session dir to overwrite host files is a scope change (S:C) with no read (C:N) and high integrity impact (I:H).

1DescriptionCVE.org
Entire CLI hooks into Git workflows to capture AI agent sessions. Prior to version 0.7.7, a path traversal vulnerability in Entire CLI allows an attacker with push access to the checkpoints repository to craft malicious checkpoint metadata that causes entire session resume or entire checkpoint rewind to write attacker-controlled transcript data outside of the expected session directory. The issue occurs because checkpoint metadata is fetched from the remote entire/checkpoints/v1 branch and the SessionID field was used to construct filesystem paths without validation in the restore path. A malicious SessionID containing absolute paths or path traversal sequences could cause arbitrary files on the victim’s machine to be overwritten. This issue has been patched in version 0.7.7.
