| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated session with at least editor-level privileges (PR:L) and network access to the wiki-go HTTP API, specifically the document editor endpoints handled by SaveHandler/SourceHandler in internal/handlers/editor.go (e.g. /api/save/<path> and /api/source/<path>). The attacker must supply a crafted document path containing traversal sequences - the patch and its test target backslash encoding ('..%5c' / '..\\') - to escape the configured documents directory. Exploitation is limited by the authentication requirement (no anonymous/unauthenticated path), so deployments that do not grant editor accounts to untrusted users face substantially lower real-world risk; affected versions are wiki-go up to and including 1.9.1, fixed in 1.9.2. |
| Impact | This is a moderate, not top-priority, issue. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) describes a remotely reachable, low-complexity flaw but one that requires authentication - PR:L maps to a low-privileged account, confirmed by the patch's test harness which exercises the attack using an 'editor' role session cookie. Impact is bounded: VC:L/VI:L/VA:L (and 3.1-equivalent C:L/I:L/A:L) indicate limited read and write of files outside the intended documents directory rather than full system compromise, with no scope/subsequent-system impact (SC:N/SI:N/SA:N). Exploit maturity is E:P (proof-of-concept), consistent with the input signal that public exploit code exists via the GHSA advisory; this is POC availability, NOT confirmed active exploitation. KEV status is not present in the input (treat as not KEV-listed) and no EPSS score was provided, so there is no evidence of mass exploitation - the realistic risk is opportunistic abuse by an already-authenticated low-privilege user rather than unauthenticated internet-wide attack. No signals conflict; the main caveat is that risk depends entirely on how freely editor-level accounts are provisioned in a given deployment. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated low-privilege 'editor' user sends a request to the wiki-go API (e.g. /api/save or /api/source) with a document path containing backslash traversal sequences such as '..%5coutside', causing SaveHandler/SourceHandler to resolve a path outside the configured documents directory. This lets the attacker read sensitive files or overwrite/create files beyond the wiki's content area. Public proof-of-concept exploit code exists (referenced in the vendor GHSA advisory), lowering the effort to reproduce. |

Path traversal in Leomoon wiki-go through 1.9.1 allows authenticated users with editor-level privileges to read, overwrite, move, or restore documents outside the configured wiki documents directory via crafted paths to the editor and version API endpoints. The flaw is remotely reachable over HTTP but requires a valid editor session (CVSS PR:L); publicly available exploit code exists, and the vendor fixed it in 1.9.2. It is a moderate-risk issue rather than a top-priority one because untrusted users cannot exploit it without editor access.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to wiki-go 1.9.2, which contains commit 94f7e73ef8df7c58091d72d77a5e26e9fdad98b8 and the new document path containment tests (release: https://github.com/leomoon-studios/wiki-go/releases/tag/v1.9.2; advisory: https://github.com/leomoon-studios/wiki-go/security/advisories/GHSA-wv68-7fq9-834c). If immediate upgrade is not possible, reduce exposure by limiting editor accounts to trusted users, because exploitation requires an authenticated editor session (PR:L); the trade-off is that normal collaborative editing is curtailed. As a compensating control, block or filter requests to /api/save, /api/source, /api/document/move, and /api/versions that contain encoded backslashes (%5c) or traversal sequences such as ../, ..\\, or %2e%2e at a reverse proxy or WAF; this may reject unusual but legitimate document names and must be tested against normal wiki usage. Additionally, run wiki-go under a dedicated low-privilege OS account whose write access is confined to the wiki root; this limits the blast radius of traversal but does not prevent tampering with wiki content or disclosure of files readable by that account.

Technical ContextAI · show details
wiki-go is a Go-based wiki server whose document editor API accepts user-supplied document paths. CWE-22 is present because SaveHandler and SourceHandler in internal/handlers/editor.go join attacker-controlled path input with the configured documents directory without reliably normalizing and containing traversal sequences. The vendor's fix and its containment test specifically target backslash-encoded traversal ('..%5c' and '..\\') as well as ordinary path manipulation, indicating that alternate separator handling let a crafted path escape the intended root. The same test coverage extends to MoveDocumentHandler and VersionsHandler, showing that move operations and version listing/reading/restoring also required containment checks. An attacker with editor-level access can therefore reach files outside the wiki documents tree, including version storage, and can disclose or alter content within the permissions of the wiki-go process. The assessed CVSS:3.1 vector is AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L, so network reachability is high but exploitation is gated by an authenticated editor session.

A weakness has been identified in leomoon-studios wiki-go up to 1.9.1. Affected by this vulnerability is the function SaveHandler/SourceHandler of the file internal/handlers/editor.go of the component API. Executing a manipulation can lead to path traversal. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploit has been made available to the public and could be used for attacks. Upgrading to version 1.9.2 addresses this issue. This patch is called 94f7e73ef8df7c58091d72d77a5e26e9fdad98b8. Upgrading the affected component is advised.
