Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires that the target run the Linux bcmasp (Broadcom ASP 2.0) Ethernet driver - present only on specific Broadcom embedded/SoC hardware - and the attacker must already have local, low-privileged access (PR:L) to generate transmit traffic that exercises the tx_spb_ring_full() path. The faulty slot check is triggered under conditions where multiple consecutive descriptor slots are needed for a transmission. Limiting factors: no remote vector (AV:L), requires valid local credentials, requires the specific Broadcom network hardware/driver, and impact is confined to availability (C:N/I:N) with no confidentiality or integrity exposure.

Impact

All signals point to a low real-world priority. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H, base 5.5) describes a locally exploitable, low-privilege availability-only flaw with no confidentiality or integrity impact. EPSS reinforces this: 0.17% probability at the 5th percentile indicates negligible expected exploitation. The CVE is NOT on CISA KEV and no POC is referenced, so there is no evidence of active or opportunistic exploitation. There is no SSVC decision data in the input. The signals are mutually consistent (low EPSS + no KEV + local-only + availability-only), so this is a high-CVSS-relative-to-impact but genuinely low-real-risk hardening fix rather than an urgent threat. One CONFLICT must be flagged: the input Tags list 'Information Disclosure', but the CVSS vector sets C:N and the description concerns a transmit (TX) descriptor-ring full-check logic error - there is no confidentiality impact, so the 'Information Disclosure' tag is inconsistent with the actual vulnerability and should be disregarded.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A local, low-privileged user on a system using the Broadcom ASP (bcmasp) Ethernet driver generates heavy network transmit load; because tx_spb_ring_full() incorrectly re-checked the same descriptor slot cnt times instead of advancing, the ring-full condition is misjudged and the driver may attempt to use slots that are not actually free, leading to transmit malfunction or a kernel-side denial of service on the network path. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, and exploitation is bounded to the specific Broadcom hardware/driver.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 06, 2026

Denial of service in the Linux kernel's bcmasp (Broadcom ASP 2.0) Ethernet driver lets a local user with low privileges (CVSS PR:L) disrupt the transmit path when the driver needs multiple consecutive descriptor slots: tx_spb_ring_full() re-initialises next_index from intf->tx_spb_index inside the loop, so incr_ring() yields the same slot every iteration and only one descriptor is ever tested instead of cnt. The defect affects kernels carrying the bcmasp driver from commit 490cb412007de593e07c1d3e2b1ec4233886707c onward and running on Broadcom embedded/SoC hardware, and is corrected in 6.12.111, 6.18.53, 7.2.7 and 7.3-rc3. EPSS is 0.17% (5th percentile) and no public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, so no public exploit identified at time of analysis and real-world priority is low.

RemediationAI

Apply the vendor-released patch by upgrading the kernel to Linux 6.12.111, 6.18.53, 7.2.7 or 7.3-rc3 (or any later stable release carrying the corresponding backport from the git.kernel.org/stable references 990df1ba4d0805d1e7f6148c364febd2ab618766, f7f7a16dd46ace4e221336a184c7806f7de19547, a8bddab54aa68b407f12294acb05bd552fb6a492, 5df7ecd302488287665ab9767bacba7ed7e2842f or 0c5cf62e72d7a666ee4da757e122dc1600df1ecc), and reboot into the fixed kernel; confirm the running version with uname -r. Where the Linux bcmasp module is not required, prevent the vulnerable code from loading by blacklisting or not building CONFIG_BCMASP (e.g. modprobe.blacklist=bcmasp or a /etc/modprobe.d entry), accepting that this disables the Broadcom ASP 2.0 Ethernet interface entirely and any network connectivity carried over it; this is a workable compensating control only on hosts whose embedded NIC is unused. Because exploitation is local (AV:L) and requires low-privileged credentials (PR:L) on a machine with the affected Broadcom hardware, restricting interactive shell and untrusted workload access on such devices reduces exposure until the kernel can be replaced. Technical ContextAI · show details

The bcmasp driver supports Broadcom's ASP 2.0 integrated Ethernet controller found on specific embedded/SoC platforms, and it manages TX descriptor rings including a 'spare' (spb) ring used when a transmission needs several contiguous slots. CWE-670 (Always-Incorrect Control Flow Implementation) describes the root cause: inside tx_spb_ring_full(), next_index was initialised from intf->tx_spb_index on each loop iteration, so the loop always examined the same slot and never advanced, whereas the intended logic walks cnt consecutive descriptors to confirm all are free before permitting a new transmit. The upstream fix simply hoists the initialisation ahead of the loop so incr_ring() advances next_index per iteration; the CPE entries (cpe:2.3:a:linux:linux) confirm the Linux kernel as the affected product and the git.kernel.org stable references point to the backported fixes across maintained branches. Per the CVSS vector CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H, the only impact is availability, with no confidentiality or integrity exposure and no remote vector.

DescriptionNVD

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

net: bcmasp: fix tx_spb_ring_full() checking same slot cnt times

The loop initialised next_index from intf->tx_spb_index on every iteration, so incr_ring() always produced the same result and only one slot was ever tested. Move the initialisation before the loop so each iteration advances next_index and the function correctly checks that cnt consecutive descriptor slots are available before allowing a new transmission.
