MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Initial Access The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation targets the Subrion CMS login page (front/login.php) and requires the victim to follow an attacker-crafted link so the vulnerable iaUsers::authorize function processes an attacker-influenced $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] value (UI:P). No authentication is required (PR:N) and no special server configuration is needed beyond a reachable default Subrion CMS <=4.2.1 login endpoint. The primary limiting factors are the need for user interaction (a clicked link) and the inherently low impact - the flaw only redirects the browser and does not by itself disclose data or execute code; realistic risk is confined to phishing/social-engineering amplification. |
| Impact | This is a genuinely low-priority issue that the low CVSS score (vendor CVSS 4.0 base 2.1) correctly reflects. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N) describes an unauthenticated, network-reachable open redirect whose only impact is a low integrity effect requiring victim interaction (UI:P) - no confidentiality or availability impact. Publicly available exploit code exists (VulDB / GitHub advisory), but there is no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no evidence of active exploitation provided in the input, so the signals converge on 'real but minor.' Open redirects are phishing/social-engineering aids rather than direct compromise vectors: the E:P (proof-of-concept) exploit maturity plus the low technical impact means this is not a patching emergency. A conflicting factor worth noting: the affected product, Subrion CMS, appears to be an abandoned/discontinued project (latest affected version 4.2.1, and the vendor 'did not respond in any way' to disclosure), so no fix is expected - mitigation must be compensating (WAF/referer validation) rather than a vendor patch. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a malicious link that hits the Subrion CMS login page (front/login.php) with an attacker-controlled HTTP Referer header, so that after the login flow the iaUsers::authorize function redirects the victim's browser to an external attacker-controlled site. This is used to lend legitimacy to a phishing page (the victim sees a trusted Subrion domain in the original link). A public proof-of-concept exists on GitHub, and the attack requires the victim to click the link (UI:P). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 24, 2026
An open redirect in the Subrion CMS login flow (front/login.php, iaUsers::authorize) through unvalidated use of the $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] value lets remote, unauthenticated attackers send a crafted link that, once the victim follows it and interacts with the login page, redirects the browser to an attacker-controlled destination. Affected deployments are Intelliants Subrion CMS releases up to and including 4.2.1; the vendor was contacted early but did not respond, and publicly available exploit code exists, so the technique is trivially reproducible. The impact is deliberately narrow - no data disclosure, code execution, or denial of service - and the flaw only amplifies phishing and social-engineering campaigns, which is consistent with the low vendor CVSS 4.0 base score of 2.1; there is no indication of confirmed active exploitation (no CISA KEV listing).
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch has been identified at time of analysis: the Intelliants maintainers were notified early but did not respond, and all references point to VulDB records and a public GitHub advisory (https://vuldb.com/vuln/409028, https://github.com/volksec/SubrionCMS-Security-Advisories/issues/2) rather than a fixed release, so upgrading alone will not resolve the exposure. The most direct fix is code-level: in front/login.php / iaUsers::authorize, stop reading $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] for the post-login destination and replace it with either a hard-coded internal path or a server-side allow-list of permitted hosts/paths - the trade-off is that legitimate deep-link redirects after login will need to be re-added to the allow-list. If the code cannot be modified, front it with a reverse proxy or WAF rule that rewrites or blocks outbound Location headers pointing to external domains on the login endpoint, accepting the risk that legitimate cross-domain SSO flows (if any) will break. Because the residual risk is phishing-driven rather than server-side compromise, pair any technical control with user-facing warnings about following unsolicited login links, and restrict or remove the public login page if it is not needed. Monitor the VulDB CTI page for a future patch version before decommissioning temporary controls.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Subrion is a PHP-based content management system by Intelliants, and the vulnerable code path is the login handler front/login.php, which calls the static method iaUsers::authorize. That function derives a post-authentication redirect target from the client-supplied $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] header instead of from a server-side allow-list or a fixed destination. Because header values are attacker-controllable, the application returns an HTTP redirect (or scripted page navigation) to whatever URL the attacker embeds, which is the classic CWE-601 'URL Redirection to Untrusted Site' pattern. The CPE entry cpe:2.3:a:intelliants:subrion_cms:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* describes all Subrion CMS releases with no version ceiling encoded, while the advisory text narrows the affected scope to versions up to 4.2.1. The attack surface is the publicly reachable default login endpoint, so no authentication (PR:N) and no unusual server configuration are needed; the only precondition is a victim who clicks or follows the crafted link (UI:P), which keeps the practical severity low since the flaw cannot by itself read, alter, or execute anything on the server.

3DescriptionCVE.org
A weakness has been identified in Intelliants Subrion CMS up to 4.2.1. This vulnerability affects the function iaUsers::authorize of the file front/login.php of the component Login Page. This manipulation of the argument $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] causes open redirect. The attack is possible to be carried out remotely. The exploit has been made available to the public and could be used for attacks. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.
