| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitable when the MISP cspReport endpoint is network-reachable by the attacker (it is unauthenticated by design and accepts an XML content type) AND the MISP server itself has network access to the internal or external HTTPS target the attacker wishes to reach. Trigger is a POST write request whose XML body is a bare HTTPS URL, which Xml::build()'s miswritten guard ( |
| Impact | CVSS 4.0 rates this 6.9 (Medium) with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N and impact VC:L only - a genuinely unauthenticated, low-complexity network attack, but with strictly limited confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact, consistent with a BLIND SSRF (the attacker cannot read the response body). CWE-918 and the SSRF tag align with the technical description. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code were provided, so this is 'no public exploit identified at time of analysis' - there is no evidence of active or automated exploitation. The primary risk driver is the unauthenticated reachability of the cspReport endpoint by design, which lowers the barrier versus authenticated MISP flaws; however, the blind nature caps direct data theft, making the realistic impact internal-network reconnaissance/probing and triggering GET-style actions on internal HTTPS endpoints rather than full data exfiltration. This is a real-but-moderate priority: the low CVSS impact metrics and absence of KEV/EPSS/POC signals argue against an emergency, while the unauthenticated network vector and 'near-default' preconditions argue for prompt patching, especially where MISP has line-of-sight to sensitive internal HTTPS services or cloud metadata endpoints. All key signals (vector, CWE, patch, source-code evidence) are internally consistent; no conflicting data was observed. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated attacker sends a POST request to the MISP cspReport endpoint with an XML content type and a body consisting of a bare HTTPS URL pointing at an internal service (e.g. https://10.0.0.5/admin or a cloud metadata endpoint). MISP's RequestHandlerComponent decodes the body via the flawed Xml::build() guard and the server issues an outbound HTTPS request to that target, letting the attacker map reachable internal hosts or trigger internal HTTPS actions. No public exploit code was provided, but the low attack complexity (AC:L) and lack of authentication (PR:N) make weaponization straightforward. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 22, 2026
Blind server-side request forgery in MISP allows unauthenticated remote attackers to coerce the MISP server into making outbound HTTPS requests to arbitrary internal or external targets by POSTing a crafted XML body containing a bare HTTPS URL to the unauthenticated cspReport endpoint. The flaw arises because PHP operator precedence in Xml::build()'s readFile guard (readFile && http || https) leaves the HTTPS locator fetch path ungated, and RequestHandlerComponent automatically decodes XML request bodies on write requests. Exploitation is constrained to blind SSRF with no response body returned to the attacker, so it primarily enables probing, timing-based reconnaissance, and triggering GET-style actions on reachable HTTPS services; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and a vendor patch commit is available.
RemediationAI
Upstream fix available (PR/commit); released patched version not independently confirmed. Apply the vendor fix from https://github.com/MISP/MISP/commit/716fc49d3 or upgrade to a MISP release containing that commit; the change overrides the XML input type handler so XML bodies without a '<' character are rejected instead of being treated as locators. If immediate patching is not possible, restrict network access to the cspReport endpoint at the reverse proxy, WAF, or firewall to trusted clients or networks, accepting that legitimate browser CSP violation reports from untrusted clients will be blocked. Implement strict outbound egress filtering or an allowlist for HTTPS destinations reachable by the MISP server, noting that legitimate feed imports, enrichment, and integrations over HTTPS must be allowlisted and may break if not enumerated in advance. Monitor MISP server outbound HTTPS connections for unexpected destinations and timing anomalies, and review logs for POST requests to cspReport with XML bodies that consist solely of HTTPS URLs.

Technical ContextAI · show details
MISP is a PHP application built on the CakePHP framework. CakePHP's RequestHandlerComponent automatically decodes XML request bodies on write (POST) requests when the XML content type is used. The underlying Xml::build() utility contains a logic error in its readFile guard condition written as $options['readFile'] && http || https; because the PHP && operator binds tighter than ||, this parses as ($options['readFile'] && http) || https, so the HTTPS branch is never gated by the readFile option. Consequently, a request body that is a bare HTTPS URL string is treated as a locator and fetched by the server. The cspReport endpoint accepts an XML content type and is unauthenticated by design, making it a reachable trigger for this blind SSRF (CWE-918). The independent assessment rates this CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N, consistent with an unauthenticated network attack with only low confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact. The patch commit adds an addInputType override in AppController::beforeFilter that returns an empty array unless the body string contains '<', preventing URL-as-body strings from being treated as fetchable locators.

DescriptionCVE.org
MISP's RequestHandlerComponent automatically decodes XML request bodies on all write requests. The underlying Xml::build() library contains a logic error in its readFile guard condition (readFile && http || https), where PHP operator precedence causes the https branch to bypass the readFile check entirely. As a result, a request body containing a bare HTTPS URL is treated as a locator and fetched by the server. Because the cspReport endpoint accepts XML content type and is unauthenticated by design, an unauthenticated remote attacker can send a POST request with a crafted XML body to cause the MISP server to issue an outbound HTTPS request to an arbitrary target reachable from the server.
The attacker does not receive the response body, but can use the vulnerability to probe internal services, trigger actions on internal HTTPS endpoints, or perform timing-based reconnaissance of the server's network environment.
The vulnerability affects any MISP deployment where the cspReport endpoint is reachable and the server has network access to internal or external HTTPS services.
