| Impact | This is a genuinely low-priority SSRF despite being remotely reachable. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N, score 2.1) correctly reflects the constraints: exploitation requires an authenticated household user (PR:L) to configure a Recipe Action, and impact is confidentiality-only and low (VC:L, VI:N/VA:N). The E:P (Proof-of-Concept) exploit maturity aligns with the reported public POC (Mealie GitHub issue #7831) - this is POC availability, NOT active exploitation. No CISA KEV listing and no EPSS score are provided; absence of KEV plus a self-hosted hobbyist-heavy footprint strongly suggests targeted opportunistic rather than widespread automated exploitation. The one signal that elevates concern above the tiny 2.1 score: the patch (PR #7914) reveals that before the fix, webhooks and recipe actions performed NO outbound-destination validation, so the SSRF could reach the cloud metadata endpoint (169.254.169.254), loopback, link-local, RFC1918, and CGNAT/Tailscale (100.64.0.0/10) ranges - a classic SSRF-to-metadata-credential path. However, recipe actions fire as outbound webhook POSTs where the response is not clearly reflected back to the attacker, so this is most likely BLIND SSRF, limiting straightforward data exfiltration and justifying VC:L over VC:H. Net: real but low-severity, gated behind authentication and a niche self-hosted product. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated Mealie household user creates or edits a Recipe Action, setting its trigger URL to an internal target such as the cloud metadata endpoint (http://169.254.169.254/) or an internal admin service. When the action fires, the Mealie server itself issues the request, reaching hosts the attacker cannot directly access. A public POC exists (Mealie GitHub issue #7831), lowering the barrier to reproduction, though the blind webhook nature limits direct data return. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 20, 2026
Server-side request forgery in Mealie up to 3.25.1 lets an authenticated user with permission to create or edit Recipe Actions coerce the server into making outbound HTTP requests to an arbitrary url argument, with no destination validation applied. Because Recipe Actions are outbound webhook POSTs, the flaw is effectively blind SSRF, so the primary risk is reaching internal-only services or the cloud metadata endpoint rather than directly exfiltrating data back to the attacker. Publicly available exploit code exists, and upgrading to 3.26.0 resolves the issue.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: 3.26.0. Upgrade Mealie to 3.26.0 (release notes at https://github.com/mealie-recipes/mealie/releases/tag/v3.26.0, fix commit fb221afa258c8dd2c4ac95b1996c33ef9db3f477) to apply outbound request protection that refuses private, loopback, link-local, and carrier-grade NAT destinations such as 100.64.0.0/10 unless explicitly permitted. After the upgrade, administrators who rely on internal webhooks or recipe actions must allow those hosts or CIDRs with HTTP_ALLOW_LIST (for example, HTTP_ALLOW_LIST=100.64.0.0/10 to keep Tailscale targets reachable), while HTTP_DISALLOW_LIST takes precedence for blocking targets and is evaluated first; be aware this will break any existing recipe action or webhook aimed at an internal address until it is allow-listed. If upgrading immediately is not possible, restrict creation and editing of Recipe Actions to fully trusted household administrators and apply network egress controls on the Mealie host to block outbound traffic to cloud metadata endpoints such as 169.254.169.254 and fd00:ec2::254 and to internal management ranges; these are compensating controls rather than a fix, and their main trade-off is continued exposure of internal-only services reachable from the Mealie server. Note that notifiers using the Apprise library are not covered by the new checks and are unaffected either way.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The vulnerability is a classic server-side request forgery (CWE-918) in the Recipe Action Trigger component, specifically the payload.model_dump function in mealie/routes/households/controller_group_recipe_actions.py. When a Recipe Action is created or edited, the attacker-controlled url value is passed into Mealie's outbound HTTP client without checking whether the destination resolves to a public address; since Mealie is self-hosted, that client can reach loopback, private, link-local, and cloud metadata addresses that the attacker cannot reach directly. The provided CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/VC:L/VI:N/VA:N) and the independent assessment both confirm network reachability with low privileges and only low confidentiality impact, consistent with blind SSRF where responses are not clearly returned to the attacker. The vendor fix in 3.26.0 adds HTTP_ALLOW_LIST and HTTP_DISALLOW_LIST configuration and rewrites outbound request handling for recipe scraping, webhooks, recipe actions, and OIDC profile images so that requests to private, loopback, link-local, and carrier-grade NAT ranges including 100.64.0.0/10 (used by Tailscale) are refused unless explicitly allowed, checking every resolved address rather than only the first and enforcing the policy at connect time per redirect hop. CPE data identifies the affected package as cpe:2.3:a:mealie-recipes:mealie:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*.

3DescriptionCVE.org
A weakness has been identified in mealie-recipes Mealie up to 3.25.1. Affected is the function payload.model_dump of the file mealie/routes/households/controller_group_recipe_actions.py of the component Recipe Action Trigger. Executing a manipulation of the argument url can lead to server-side request forgery. The attack can be executed remotely. The exploit has been made available to the public and could be used for attacks. Upgrading to version 3.26.0 is able to address this issue. This patch is called fb221afa258c8dd2c4ac95b1996c33ef9db3f477. The affected component should be upgraded.
