In OpenStack Mistral through 23.0.0, the std.ssh_proxied action passes a caller-supplied proxy_command value directly to paramiko.ProxyCommand() before any SSH connection to a gateway or target host is attempted. An authenticated project member can use the standard action-execution API to submit an arbitrary local command as proxy_command; paramiko starts that command as a subprocess on the executor host under the executor's own service account, independent of whether the SSH connection itself ever succeeds. Only Mistral deployments that permit the std.ssh_proxied action, the default configuration, are affected.
AnalysisAI
OpenStack Mistral through 23.0.0 exposes an authenticated command-injection path in its std.ssh_proxied action: the caller-supplied proxy_command string is handed to paramiko.ProxyCommand() and executed as a local subprocess on the executor host under the Mistral service account, before any SSH connection to the gateway or target host is even attempted. Any authenticated project member who can reach the standard action-execution API can therefore run arbitrary OS commands on the Mistral executor, with the default configuration affected because std.ssh_proxied is permitted out of the box; deployments that explicitly disable or restrict that action are not impacted. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires the std.ssh_proxied action to be permitted, which is the DEFAULT Mistral configuration, so no non-default setup is needed to be vulnerable. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine, actionable priority rather than a high-CVSS paper tiger. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch version is identified in the available data; obtain the fixed Mistral release and migration guidance from OpenStack Security Advisory OSSA-2026-044 (https://security.openstack.org/ossa/OSSA-2026-044.html) and Launchpad bug 2162100 (https://launchpad.net/bugs/2162100), then upgrade all Mistral API and executor nodes together. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every Mistral deployment to identify instances running version 23.0.0 or earlier with the default configuration that permits std.ssh_proxied; where that action is not operationally required, disable or blocklist it immediately through Mistral action policy or configuration, restrict action-execution API access to trusted administrative accounts, and review executor logs for anomalous proxy_command invocations. …
