| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires a specific stack of conditions, all drawn from the description: (1) a path-based WordPress Multisite network where user identities and auth cookies are network-global; (2) the Wild Apricot Login plugin active on at least one subsite; (3) a connected WildApricot organization that accepts public zero-fee membership applications, letting the attacker provision a custom-level contact at will; (4) the attacker-controlled WildApricot contact's email must exactly match the target WordPress administrator's email; and (5) no existing WildApricot contact-ID mapping for that email, so the code falls back to the network-global get_user_by('email', ...) lookup guarded only by is_super_admin(). Limiting factors that reduce realistic risk: the attack does not work on default single-site WordPress or subdomain-based Multisite, the attacker must know the victim admin's email, the organization must allow open/zero-fee membership, and overall attack complexity is high. No proof of password, local account-linking confirmation, inbox verification, or administrator approval is required once these conditions are met. |
| Impact | This is a genuine authentication-bypass issue (CWE-287) but a conditional one, and the signals are consistent rather than conflicting. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N, C:H/I:H/A:H, base 7.5) correctly reflects a network-reachable flaw with high attack complexity and low required privilege that yields full compromise of a WordPress administrator account. The high complexity is well justified by the description: the attacker needs an email collision against a specific admin, a connected WildApricot organization that accepts public zero-fee membership, the absence of an existing contact-ID mapping so the email fallback triggers, and a path-based Multisite deployment where identities and cookies are network-global. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit were supplied, so there is no evidence of active or at-scale exploitation; the vuln.today Decision label is 'this_week', not act_now/emergency. Net: a real, high-impact administrator-takeover bug that warrants prompt remediation on affected path-based Multisite installations, but the stacked preconditions make opportunistic mass exploitation unlikely - treat it as a priority for the specific deployments that match the configuration, not as a drop-everything network-wide emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker submits a free, public zero-fee membership application to a WildApricot organization connected to a target WordPress site, using an email address that matches an existing WordPress subsite administrator. They then complete the Wild Apricot Login SSO flow on any subsite where the plugin is active; because no contact-ID mapping exists, the plugin falls back to an email lookup, binds to the admin account, and issues a network-global auth cookie, logging the attacker in as that administrator. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and the network vector is tempered by high attack complexity (the email collision, open-membership organization, and path-based Multisite configuration must all align). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 29, 2026
Authentication bypass in the Wild Apricot Login plugin for WordPress (all versions through 1.0.18) allows a remote attacker with low privileges (CVSS PR:L) to obtain a valid network-global WordPress authentication cookie for an existing subsite administrator without knowing that administrator's password. The described path requires a path-based WordPress Multisite network, the plugin active on at least one subsite, a WildApricot organization that permits public zero-fee membership signup, and an attacker-controlled WildApricot contact whose email exactly matches the victim administrator's email with no existing contact-ID mapping. Exploitation is conditional and high-complexity per the assessed CVSS vector; no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no CISA KEV entry is present in the provided data, and the priority label is this_week.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis; no fixed version is listed in the provided data. Until a patched release is available, the primary mitigation is to disable the Wild Apricot Login plugin on path-based WordPress Multisite networks; this removes the SSO path but also removes WildApricot-based login for all users. If the plugin must remain active, close public zero-fee WildApricot membership enrollment or require manual review and approval of new contacts so an attacker cannot create a contact with an arbitrary email matching a WordPress administrator, and audit existing WildApricot contacts for email collisions with WordPress administrator accounts; these measures trade off self-service onboarding and do not fix the underlying code. Because the described issue is tied to path-based Multisite, moving to a subdomain-based Multisite architecture would avoid the described condition but is an architectural change, not a patch. Technical ContextAI · show details
Wild Apricot Login is a WordPress plugin that authenticates users through WildApricot SSO. The advisory describes a fallback in Module.php: when no WildApricot contact-ID mapping exists for an incoming SSO login, the plugin performs a network-global get_user_by('email', ...) lookup and UserSynchronizer::syncWaContact() binds the WildApricot contact to that WordPress user; Controller::login() then calls wp_set_auth_cookie() to issue a session cookie. The only guard described is is_super_admin(), and the flow does not require a password, local account-linking confirmation, inbox verification, or administrator approval. That is an improper-authentication weakness (CWE-287). The issue is specific to path-based WordPress Multisite, where user identities and authentication cookies are network-global, so a cookie minted on one subsite is valid on another where the victim user is an administrator; default single-site WordPress and subdomain-based Multisite are not described as affected. Referenced source locations include Controller.php#L347, Module.php#L159 and Module.php#L112, UserSynchronizer.php#L36, and Client.php#L22 in the 1.0.18 tag. The trigger is described in the advisory; this analysis does not add mechanism beyond those sources.

DescriptionCVE.org
The Wild Apricot Login plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Authentication Bypass via SSO Email-Collision Account Binding in all versions up to, and including, 1.0.18. When no WildApricot contact-ID mapping is found for an incoming SSO login, the plugin falls back to a network-global get_user_by('email', ...) lookup in Module.php to resolve a WordPress user, then UserSynchronizer::syncWaContact() binds and Controller::login() issues a session cookie via wp_set_auth_cookie() for that resolved user - both guarded only by is_super_admin() - without ever requiring proof of ownership of the matched WordPress account such as a password, local account-linking confirmation, inbox verification, or administrator approval. This makes it possible for attackers with custom-level WildApricot membership access to authenticate as an existing WordPress subsite administrator on a path-based Multisite network, obtaining a valid network-global authentication cookie for the victim without their credentials. Exploitation requires that the attacker control a WildApricot contact whose email address matches the target WordPress administrator's email - achievable via a public zero-fee membership application on the connected WildApricot organization - and that they complete the SSO flow on any subsite where Wild Apricot Login is active; because WordPress user identities and authentication cookies are network-global, the cookie issued on that subsite is equally valid on any other subsite where the victim user holds an administrator role.
Executive ViewAI
A high-severity authentication bypass in the Wild Apricot Login plugin (all versions through 1.0.18) allows a low-privileged attacker to gain administrator access to any subsite within a WordPress Multisite network where the plugin is active, provided specific conditions are met. This puts sensitive member data and site management controls at risk, and could lead to broader network compromise if the subsite administrator account is leveraged. Leadership should prioritize mitigation because the plugin is unpatched and the required configuration is common in membership-driven multisite environments.
Deactivate or remove the plugin if not essential; restrict plugin-related endpoints via network or WAF rules; disable public zero-fee membership signups in WildApricot; enforce unique email verification for administrator accounts; monitor for anomalous administrator logins.
