Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires: (1) the victim must be authenticated to the inventory-management-system at the time of the attack - the forged request is only valid if the session cookie is active; (2) the victim must be socially engineered into visiting an attacker-controlled page or clicking a crafted link (UI:P); (3) the application must be network-accessible from the attacker's delivery vector (AV:N). Factors limiting exploitation: the application must be deployed and reachable, which is unlikely outside of small/personal environments; the attacker must know the target application URL; and the impact is confined to low-severity integrity changes (VI:L) with no confidentiality or availability impact. No elevated attacker privileges are required (PR:N), but victim authentication is a hard prerequisite.

Impact

Real-world risk is low. The CVSS 4.0 score of 2.1 accurately reflects the constrained impact: exploitation requires user interaction (UI:P), affects only integrity at a low level (VI:L), and has no confidentiality or availability impact. The product is an obscure, unmaintained-looking hobby or student project on GitHub with no apparent enterprise deployment footprint, which further depresses practical risk. A POC exists (E:P in the CVSS supplemental vector), elevating exploitation ease slightly, but the attack requires social engineering a victim who is simultaneously authenticated to the application. The project has not responded to the disclosure, and no patch is available, but the narrow deployment scope means this is unlikely to represent a meaningful threat surface for most organizations. EPSS data was not provided in the input; based on product obscurity and low CVSS score, exploitation probability is expected to be extremely low.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a malicious HTML page containing a hidden form that submits a request to the target application's includes/process.php endpoint (e.g., to update user data). The attacker social-engineers an authenticated inventory-system user into visiting the malicious page - for example via a phishing email. The victim's browser silently sends the forged request with their valid session cookie, causing the application to perform the unauthorized action without the victim's awareness. A proof-of-concept script (poc_idor_updateuser.py) is publicly available, though it requires adaptation for specific deployments.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 13, 2026

Cross-site request forgery in Rizwan17's PHP inventory-management-system allows remote attackers to perform unauthorized state-changing actions by tricking an authenticated victim into visiting a malicious page. The vulnerability exists in includes/process.php and results in limited integrity impact - an attacker can manipulate inventory data on behalf of a logged-in user without the user's knowledge. A publicly available proof-of-concept exploit (poc_idor_updateuser.py) exists; however, no KEV listing indicates no confirmed active exploitation at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch has been identified at time of analysis - the project maintainer has not responded to the disclosure (GitHub issue #17). Deployments of this application should implement anti-CSRF tokens on all state-changing form submissions in includes/process.php, or apply the SameSite=Strict or SameSite=Lax cookie attribute to session cookies, which prevents cross-origin requests from carrying session credentials in most modern browsers. Restricting the application to internal-only network access (no public exposure) eliminates the remote attack vector entirely. Given the project's apparent lack of maintenance, organizations should consider replacing this software with an actively maintained alternative. Reference: https://vuldb.com/vuln/403181.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The affected product is a PHP-based inventory management web application hosted on GitHub under the handle Rizwan17 (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:rizwan17:inventory-management-system:*). The root cause is CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery): the application's includes/process.php does not validate that state-changing HTTP requests originate from the legitimate application session - specifically, it lacks anti-CSRF tokens or equivalent same-site protections. This allows a third-party page to silently submit forged requests to the application on behalf of an authenticated victim. The CVSS 4.0 vector (E:P) confirms a publicly available exploit, and the UI:P metric reflects the mandatory victim interaction prerequisite. Notably, the published POC is named poc_idor_updateuser.py, suggesting the original reporter may also have identified an IDOR component on the user-update endpoint, though the formal classification is CSRF.
