Exploitation Conditions

The victim must be actively authenticated to the AVideo instance AND must hold playlist management privileges - unauthenticated users and ordinary viewers cannot be exploited via this path. The victim must visit an attacker-controlled page that auto-submits a cross-origin POST (standard browser behavior, requires no special configuration). The structural precondition is the absence of a .json.php filename suffix on the targeted endpoint, which is an architectural characteristic of playlistSort.php that cannot be changed by defenders without modifying source code. The open-redirect component requires the sort parameter to be present in the POST body. Limiting factors include: victim interaction is mandatory, the victim must hold elevated playlist rights, and the AVideo instance must be reachable from the attacker's controlled page (typically meaning a publicly accessible deployment).

Impact

The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.1 (Medium) is a reasonable representation of constrained but real-world exploitable risk. The PR:L metric in the provided vector reflects that the victim must hold playlist management rights - ordinary viewers are not useful targets. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis, and there is no CISA KEV listing. EPSS data was not supplied. The primary real-world threat is not playlist reordering itself but the open-redirect component enabling credential phishing: a victim who trusts the originating AVideo URL and is seamlessly bounced to a lookalike login page may re-enter credentials. That said, the attack requires victim interaction and a specific authenticated session, limiting opportunistic mass exploitation - even a mid-sized regional video platform operator in sanok should treat this as a moderate-priority hardening task rather than an emergency, especially if playlist management rights are tightly scoped. The absence of any patch elevates urgency for compensating controls.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker sends a phishing message to an AVideo playlist manager containing a link to an attacker-controlled page hosting auto-submitting JavaScript that POSTs to the victim's AVideo instance at /objects/playlistSort.php with a Referer: https://attacker.example.com/fake-login header. Because the CSRF guard does not fire and the Referer is not validated, the server processes the playlist reorder and issues a Location: https://attacker.example.com/fake-login response, silently redirecting the victim's browser from a trusted AVideo URL to a phishing page. No public proof-of-concept code was identified at time of analysis.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 11, 2026

Open redirect combined with CSRF guard bypass in WWBN AVideo allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to redirect authenticated playlist managers to attacker-controlled phishing sites. The vulnerability resides in objects/playlistSort.php, which escapes AVideo's automatic CSRF protection because it lacks the .json.php filename suffix that triggers autoCSRFGuard()/forbidIfIsUntrustedRequest(), while simultaneously forwarding the unvalidated HTTP_REFERER header as a Location redirect without invoking AVideo's own isSafeRedirectURL() sanitizer. No patched version is available at time of analysis, leaving all AVideo deployments through commit c3edcc274c389816d434acadac07ee78eaf330c1 exposed to both playlist tampering and browser hijacking.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patch is identified at time of analysis. Administrators should monitor the WWBN/AVideo GitHub repository and the advisory at https://github.com/WWBN/AVideo/security/advisories/GHSA-jj4v-c999-cm2m for an upstream fix. As an immediate compensating control, restrict playlist management privileges to the smallest possible set of trusted users, reducing the pool of exploitable victims. A surgical code-level workaround is to add an explicit call to isSafeRedirectURL() on the $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] value in objects/playlistSort.php before issuing the Location header, or to add a CSRF token parameter check equivalent to what .json.php endpoints receive - both changes are low-risk and targeted. Operators running a WAF may also add a rule blocking cross-origin POST requests to /objects/playlistSort.php from non-AVideo origins, though this could interfere with legitimate same-origin usage and should be tested. Disabling playlist sort functionality entirely via access controls is a high-confidence workaround with zero false-positive risk if the feature is non-essential.

Technical ContextAI · show details

AVideo (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:wwbn:avideo:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is an open-source PHP video-sharing platform maintained by WWBN. The root cause is CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery), amplified by a secondary CWE-601 (Open Redirect) failure. AVideo implements a blanket CSRF defense via autoCSRFGuard()/forbidIfIsUntrustedRequest() that is keyed to filenames ending in .json.php; endpoints with any other extension silently receive no CSRF validation. The objects/playlistSort.php endpoint falls outside that protection boundary. Additionally, the script reads $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] - an HTTP header fully attacker-controlled in a cross-origin POST - and emits it verbatim as the Location response header, bypassing AVideo's own isSafeRedirectURL() function which would otherwise enforce an allowlist. The two flaws compose: CSRF delivers the action, open redirect weaponizes the response for phishing.

DescriptionCVE.org

AVideo through commit c3edcc274c389816d434acadac07ee78eaf330c1 contains an open redirect in objects/playlistSort.php. Because the endpoint is not a *.json.php script, AVideo's automatic CSRF guard (autoCSRFGuard()/forbidIfIsUntrustedRequest()) does not run, and when the request includes the sort parameter the script issues a Location header set to the unvalidated $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'] value without calling isSafeRedirectURL(). A remote unauthenticated attacker can therefore induce a logged-in user who can manage the targeted playlist to submit a cross-origin POST with a crafted Referer, causing the victim's playlist to be reordered and the victim's browser to be redirected from a trusted AVideo URL to an attacker-controlled site for phishing. No patched version is available.
