Primary primitive is arbitrary file write outside sandbox scope (I:H, A:H via overwrite); confidentiality impact is secondary and limited to write-chaining, not direct data exfiltration.
Primary rating from Vendor (redhat).

A flaw was found in bubblewrap. During sandbox setup, creating files or directories under the new root can follow a parent symlink onto the host via /oldroot, writing attacker-chosen paths outside the sandbox as the launching user. This happens before the sandboxed process starts. This issue is GHSA-pxhw-h44j-8pfx. It is fixed in bubblewrap 0.12.0.
AnalysisAI
Sandbox escape in bubblewrap prior to 0.12.0 allows a local, low-privileged user to write files or directories to arbitrary host paths outside the sandbox boundary by exploiting symlink resolution during the pre-execution setup phase (CWE-59). The escape occurs via /oldroot - bubblewrap's bind-mounted original root - before the sandboxed process ever starts, meaning no code execution inside the sandbox is needed to trigger it. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | The attacker must be a local user with permission to invoke bubblewrap or Flatpak (CVSS PR:L), which on most desktop Linux systems means any ordinary user account. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 8.8 vector AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H accurately captures the sandbox escape class: the scope change (S:C) reflects the pivot from the sandboxed environment to the host filesystem. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: bubblewrap 0.12.0. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
