| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires: (1) the target AVideo instance has the CustomizeUser plugin enabled - this is the default state, so no non-default configuration is needed; (2) a user with administrator privileges must be authenticated in their browser at the time the malicious GET is issued; (3) the attacker must cause that administrator's browser to issue a cross-origin GET to the |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P) accurately reflects a moderate-severity CSRF with passive user interaction required. Real-world risk is bounded by the social engineering step - an administrator must visit or load attacker-controlled content - but this is a low bar for phishing campaigns or malicious advertisements. The CustomizeUser plugin is enabled by default, eliminating any configuration prerequisite. The attacker cannot escalate to administrator (the description explicitly confirms swapping to another admin account is rejected), so the primary impact is privilege reduction: the victim admin is temporarily demoted. The secondary session_id disclosure in the JSON response could allow session fixation or replay depending on session management implementation, a signal the provided CVSS 4.0 vector undercounts by setting VC:N. No public exploit code is identified and the CVE is not in CISA KEV; however, the attack is trivially constructable from the description alone (a single img tag). The absence of a patch at publication time is the most significant risk amplifier for deployed instances. |

Cross-site request forgery in WWBN AVideo's CustomizeUser plugin allows an unauthenticated attacker to cause an authenticated administrator to lose administrative access. The swapUser.json.php endpoint accepts users_id via GET requests without CSRF token validation - the global autoCSRFGuard() guard is only applied to POST requests - meaning an img tag or crafted link embedded on any attacker-controlled page can silently invoke User::swapUser() in the context of a logged-in admin's browser session. Additionally, the JSON response leaks the target user's session_id, adding a secondary information disclosure impact. No patch was available at time of publication and the vulnerable plugin is enabled by default.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch was available at the time of CVE publication. Until a fix is released, administrators should manually disable or remove the CustomizeUser plugin from their AVideo installation, which eliminates the vulnerable endpoint entirely. As a secondary measure, deployers can configure their web server to reject GET requests to plugin/CustomizeUser/swapUser.json.php (e.g., via nginx limit_except POST {} or Apache LimitExcept POST), preventing the cross-origin GET vector while preserving POST-based functionality if the plugin must remain active - note this does not address CSRF via a crafted POST form. Monitoring authentication logs for unexpected swapUser invocations can help detect exploitation attempts. Technical ContextAI · show details
WWBN AVideo is an open-source self-hosted video platform written in PHP (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:wwbn:avideo). The root cause is CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery): the CustomizeUser plugin endpoint at plugin/CustomizeUser/swapUser.json.php reads users_id from $_REQUEST (which aggregates GET, POST, and cookie data) and calls User::swapUser() without invoking either forbidIfNotPost() (which would restrict the method to HTTP POST) or forbidIfInvalidToken() (which would validate the CSRF token). The application's global autoCSRFGuard() function is only wired to POST requests to *.json.php paths, leaving GET-accessible JSON endpoints entirely unprotected. Because PHP's $_REQUEST superglobal includes GET parameters, a cross-origin GET - naturally issued by browsers for resources like images - is sufficient to trigger the state-changing operation.

DescriptionCVE.org
WWBN AVideo through commit c3edcc274c389816d434acadac07ee78eaf330c1 (master) contains a cross-site request forgery vulnerability in the CustomizeUser plugin endpoint plugin/CustomizeUser/swapUser.json.php. The endpoint takes users_id from $_REQUEST and invokes User::swapUser() without calling forbidIfNotPost() or forbidIfInvalidToken(), and the global autoCSRFGuard() check only runs for POST requests to *.json.php, so the action is reachable via GET. An attacker who causes an authenticated administrator's browser to issue a cross-origin GET (for example via an <img> tag or link) can replace that administrator's session with a non-admin user account, causing the administrator to lose administrative access until the swap is cancelled; swapping to another administrator account is rejected, so this is not privilege escalation. The JSON response also discloses the session_id. The CustomizeUser plugin is enabled by default, and no patch was available at the time of publication.
