Unauthenticated network attacker (PR:N) but the required non-default four-option configuration is a condition beyond attacker control, so AC:H; admin takeover yields full C:H/I:H/A:H.

The miniOrange OTP Login, Verification and SMS Notifications plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Authentication Bypass via the mo_wp_login_intent parameter in all versions up to, and including, 5.5.5. This is due to a missing password-intent guard in the skip_pass_fallback-enabled configuration branch of the mo_by_pass_login() function, which treats administrator role membership alone as sufficient authentication whenever the unauthenticated, unverified POST parameter mo_wp_login_intent is submitted with the value otp, causing mo_get_user() to skip wp_authenticate_username_password() and resolve a WP_User purely from a username lookup. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to log in as any existing administrator account by supplying only a known username and an empty password alongside mo_wp_login_intent=otp, with no password or OTP verification required. Exploitation is conditional on a site administrator having simultaneously enabled the following plugin options: WP Login OTP, Login with Only OTP, Allow Users to Login with Username and Password, and Admin OTP Bypass.

AnalysisAI
Authentication bypass in the miniOrange OTP Login, Verification and SMS Notifications WordPress plugin (all versions up to and including 5.5.5) allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to log in as any existing administrator account by submitting only a known admin username, an empty password, and the POST parameter mo_wp_login_intent=otp - no password or OTP check is ever performed. Exploitation requires a specific, non-default configuration in which the site administrator has simultaneously enabled WP Login OTP, Login with Only OTP, Allow Users to Login with Username and Password, and Admin OTP Bypass; that prerequisite stack is the primary limiting factor and is why our independent assessment rates the issue AC:H rather than the AC:L assumed by the published 9.8 score, while the impact ceiling (full WordPress site takeover via an administrator session) remains high. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the site administrator to have SIMULTANEOUSLY enabled all four plugin options: WP Login OTP, Login with Only OTP, Allow Users to Login with Username and Password, and Admin OTP Bypass - this is a non-default combination and is the primary limiting factor. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H = 9.8) frames this as trivially exploitable unauthenticated remote administrator takeover, and the impact ceiling is real: a WordPress admin session grants full site compromise. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade the miniOrange OTP Login, Verification and SMS Notifications plugin to a release later than 5.5.5; the WordPress.org plugin repository records an upstream fix commit at https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/3687601/miniorange-otp-verification, so treat this as an upstream fix available (PR/commit) and confirm the corresponding tagged release for your site's version pinning before relying on it, since a specific patched version number is not independently confirmed in the available data. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every WordPress installation and confirm which sites run the miniOrange OTP Login, Verification and SMS Notifications plugin at version 5.5.5 or lower; on any affected site, immediately deactivate and remove the plugin, or if business continuity absolutely requires it, break the exploit prerequisite configuration by disabling the 'Allow Users to Login with Username and Password' and 'Admin OTP Bypass' options so the required combination of four settings cannot be met. …
