Remote unauthenticated command injection with no user interaction yields full C/I/A; AC:L since a single crafted URL triggers it, assuming the common pattern of app-forwarded untrusted URLs.

DescriptionCVE.org

zerox 1.1.20 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in the file download mechanism where the temporary file extension derived from document URLs is interpolated unsanitized into shell commands executed by poppler utilities. Attackers can craft document URLs with malicious file extensions containing command substitution syntax to execute arbitrary OS commands before document processing occurs.

AnalysisAI

OS command injection in getomni-ai's zerox 1.1.20 (the node-zerox document-to-markdown library) lets remote attackers execute arbitrary shell commands by supplying a document URL whose file extension contains command-substitution syntax. The unsanitized extension is interpolated into shell commands run by poppler utilities during file download, so injection fires before any document processing. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires that the deploying application passes an attacker-controlled document URL into zerox 1.1.20's URL-based file download path, and that the derived temporary-file extension (taken from the URL) reaches the poppler shell command unsanitized. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 base is 9.3 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H), reflecting network-reachable, unauthenticated, no-interaction command execution with full confidentiality/integrity/availability impact on the vulnerable system. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation No vendor-released fixed version is confirmed in the input, so treat this as no confirmed patched release at time of analysis and monitor https://github.com/getomni-ai/zerox/issues/206 and the VulnCheck advisory for a tagged fix. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all systems and applications using zerox 1.1.20 or earlier versions; document their network exposure and criticality; and immediately restrict access via firewall rules limiting inbound connections to authorized sources only. …
