1DescriptionCVE.org
Grav versions 2.0.0 through 2.0.17 fail to apply save-time XSS detection to modular pages, allowing authenticated page editors to store Twig-assembled XSS payloads. Attackers with page-edit rights can create modular pages with malicious Twig code that executes in visitor browsers when the parent page is rendered, including in administrator sessions.
AnalysisAI
Stored cross-site scripting in Grav CMS versions 2.0.0 through 2.0.17 allows authenticated page editors to plant persistent XSS payloads via the modular page subsystem, which bypasses the CMS's save-time XSS sanitization entirely. By embedding malicious Twig template code into a modular page, an attacker with page-edit privileges can cause arbitrary JavaScript to execute in the browsers of any visitor to the parent page - including site administrators. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires: (1) an attacker account with page-edit (editor-level) privileges on the target Grav installation - unauthenticated exploitation is not possible; (2) Grav CMS version between 2.0.0 and 2.0.17 inclusive; (3) the modular page feature must be in use (it is a standard Grav feature, not a non-default plugin); (4) a victim - including any administrator - must passively visit the parent page that renders the malicious modular child. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.1 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:P) accurately reflects the constrained impact: exploitation requires authenticated access with page-edit rights (PR:L) and passive user interaction from a victim (UI:P), and direct system impact is nil (VC:N/VI:N/VA:N). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upstream fix availability should be confirmed by consulting the GitHub Security Advisory at https://github.com/getgrav/grav/security/advisories/GHSA-fg8g-663r-f366; no specific patched version number was provided in the available source data, so administrators should check that advisory directly for the minimum safe version. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
