Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires the site to have Eventin's offline (local) payment method enabled - a non-default gating configuration - and at least one existing order to target. The vulnerable finalisation route relies on a nonce the plugin exposes to unauthenticated visitors, so no login is needed (PR:N), but AC:H reflects that the attacker must act against a specific configuration and an existing order rather than a default install. Impact is limited to integrity (I:L): resetting orders/attendees to pending and invalidating paid tickets; there is no data disclosure (C:N) or service outage (A:N). Fixed in Eventin 4.1.24.

Impact

This is a genuine but low-priority issue. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N = 3.7) captures it well: network-reachable and unauthenticated, but confidentiality and availability are untouched and the only impact is a low integrity effect (resetting order/attendee status). AC:H is justified because exploitation is gated on a specific non-default deployment state (the offline/local payment method must be enabled) and on the existence of a target order to reset. EPSS agrees this is not a mass-exploitation candidate (0.18%, 8th percentile), and there is no CISA KEV listing, so there is no evidence of active exploitation. A publicly available exploit exists (WPScan write-up), which raises the practical likelihood of opportunistic abuse against exposed shops, but POC availability is a distinct signal from active exploitation and must not be conflated. The 'Authentication Bypass' tag overstates the class: the root cause is missing authorization (CWE-862) - the endpoint is intended to be reachable by unauthenticated visitors, but the caller is never checked to own the order. Net: a real, patch-worthy authorization flaw with low blast radius, appropriate for routine patching rather than emergency response.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

On an event site running Eventin with offline (local) payment enabled, an unauthenticated attacker reuses the order-finalisation nonce the plugin exposes to anonymous visitors and calls the finalisation route against an order ID they do not own. Because ownership is never validated, the targeted order and its attendees are reset to a pending state, invalidating already-paid tickets. A public WPScan proof-of-concept exists, and no authentication or user interaction is required.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 17, 2026

Unauthenticated attackers can reset any existing order and its attendees to a pending state in the Eventin WordPress plugin before 4.1.24, invalidating already-paid tickets, when the plugin's offline (local) payment method is enabled. The finalisation routine relies on a nonce that the plugin exposes to unauthenticated visitors and never verifies that the caller owns the targeted order, making this a missing-authorization flaw rather than an authentication one. Exploitation is gated by configuration: the site must have the offline payment method active and at least one existing order to target, and publicly available exploit code exists, but there is no evidence of confirmed active exploitation (CISA KEV) and the EPSS score is very low at 0.18% (8th percentile). Impact is limited to integrity - order/attendee state is corrupted, with no data disclosure or service outage - so this is a genuine but low-priority issue. Fixed in Eventin 4.1.24.

RemediationAI

Upgrade the Eventin plugin to 4.1.24 or later - the vendor-released patch - which adds the missing authorization check on the offline payment order-finalisation path; the fix is available per the vendor/WPScan advisory at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/5ac3b3af-eee7-4cf1-a16a-6d0095306bb7/. If the upgrade cannot be applied immediately, the most effective compensating control is to disable Eventin's offline (local) payment method, which removes the gating configuration this exploit depends on - the trade-off is that you lose the ability to accept manual/offline payments until you patch. Restrict access to the plugin's order-finalisation endpoint at the WAF or reverse-proxy layer (block unauthenticated POSTs to the offline-payment finalisation action) if you must keep offline payments enabled, accepting that legitimate guest-payment flows may break and that rule tuning requires care. Because the impact is integrity-only and the flaw resets orders and attendees to pending, also monitor order status transitions for unexpected reversions of paid orders and reconcile attendee lists, re-issuing or restoring any tickets that were invalidated; note that this is detection and recovery, not prevention. No public confirmation of active exploitation exists, and the EPSS score is low (0.18%), so remediation can be scheduled with normal patch cadence rather than treated as an emergency.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization) in the Eventin WordPress event-management/ticketing plugin. WordPress nonces are designed as CSRF deterrents tied to a user session and action, not as access-control tokens; here the plugin's offline (local) payment order-finalisation path validated only a nonce that is exposed to unauthenticated visitors and performed no ownership or capability check on the order being finalised. Because the endpoint accepts a request from any caller holding that nonce, an attacker can drive the finalisation logic against arbitrary existing order identifiers and force the order and its associated attendee records back to a pending state, which effectively voids tickets that had already been paid for. The CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N) reflects that no credentials or user interaction are needed, but the high attack complexity comes from the non-default prerequisite that the offline payment method be enabled and that a valid, existing order be targeted - it is not exploitable on a stock installation. Integrity impact is low: no confidentiality loss (C:N) and no availability impact (A:N). The affected component is tracked under CPE cpe:2.3:a:unknown:eventin:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, reflecting that the vendor/product naming for this WordPress plugin is not fully normalised in CPE data; EUVD records affected versions as Eventin 4.1.5 through versions before 4.1.24.

DescriptionCVE.org

The Eventin WordPress plugin before 4.1.24 does not properly authorise order finalisation when its offline (local) payment method is enabled, relying on a nonce that is exposed to unauthenticated visitors and never checking that the caller owns the order, allowing unauthenticated attackers to reset any existing order and its attendees to a pending state and thereby invalidate paid tickets.
