| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires a valid WordPress account at contributor level or higher (Contributor, Author, Editor, or Administrator). On many WordPress event sites this is a low barrier, as contributor accounts are frequently granted to event organizers or volunteers. The vulnerable code path is exercised only when the Eventin plugin is installed and active. No special server configuration beyond a standard WordPress+PHP stack is needed - any locally accessible PHP file on the server is a valid LFI target. The CVSS vector PR:H appears inconsistent with the description's 'contributor-level' threshold; PR:L is the accurate representation. There is no requirement for administrator interaction after the request is submitted. |
| Impact | The published CVSS vector (PR:H/AC:H) appears to understate accessibility: the description explicitly states contributor-level access suffices, which is PR:L in CVSS terms, and exploitation of a path-traversal-to-LFI flaw typically requires only a valid path string - no complex preconditions beyond possessing that account. EPSS at 0.16% (5th percentile) and SSVC 'Exploitation: none' suggest no widespread automated attacks currently, but this conflicts with the confirmed public POC from WPScan. The SSVC 'Technical Impact: total' and SSVC 'Automatable: no' combination signals that while individual exploitation is high-impact (full C/I/A), mass scanning is constrained by the need for an authenticated session. Real-world risk is therefore elevated for sites that allow open contributor registration or whose contributor accounts may be compromised - even a mid-sized municipal IT team in kalisz running a public WordPress event portal should treat this as urgent given the POC availability and full-compromise potential. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker registers or compromises a WordPress contributor account on a target site running Eventin before 4.1.21. They then submit a crafted HTTP request containing a path-traversal string as the template path parameter, directing the plugin's include routine to a PHP web shell or configuration file already present on the server (e.g., a previously uploaded file or a known writable path). Because a public POC is available via WPScan, an attacker with basic PHP knowledge can adapt it quickly. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 06, 2026
Local file inclusion in Eventin WordPress plugin before 4.1.21 enables authenticated contributors and higher-privileged users to include and execute arbitrary PHP files on the web server. The plugin fails to validate a user-supplied template path parameter before passing it to a PHP file-inclusion routine, allowing path traversal to any locally accessible PHP file. A publicly available proof-of-concept has been published by WPScan; vendor patch 4.1.21 is available and should be applied immediately.
RemediationAI
Update Eventin to version 4.1.21 or later, which is the vendor-released patch for this issue; this is the primary and recommended fix. Until patching is possible, restrict WordPress contributor account creation to trusted users only, and audit existing contributor-level accounts for unauthorized additions - open registration for event contributions is a common attack surface on public-facing event sites. As a supplementary control, consider applying a WAF rule to block requests containing path-traversal sequences (../ or ..\) in plugin-related template parameters, though this may interfere with legitimate usage. Removing the Eventin plugin entirely until patching is feasible is a valid option for sites where the downtime impact is acceptable.

Technical ContextAI · show details
CWE-22 (Path Traversal) manifests here in Eventin's template-loading subsystem: user-controlled input is accepted as a filesystem path and passed directly to a PHP include or require call without sufficient sanitization or allowlist validation. Because PHP's include mechanism will execute any file with a .php extension that is accessible on the server's filesystem, an attacker who can supply a crafted path can pivot from a template-path parameter to full server-side code execution. The affected product is identified via CPE cpe:2.3:a:unknown:eventin:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* (CPE vendor field is a placeholder); the real product is the Eventin events-management plugin for WordPress. All versions below 4.1.21 are confirmed affected per EUVD-2026-71866 and WPScan advisory d8dea263-5676-4e3c-9ea4-36904e1ac4d3.

Contributor access is PR:L not PR:H; once authenticated, path traversal to LFI is straightforward with no special conditions, so AC:L.

The Eventin WordPress plugin before 4.1.21 does not properly validate a template path value before using it to include a local file, allowing users with contributor-level access and above to include and execute arbitrary local PHP files.
