AC:H because the attacker must achieve an on-path MITM position over the plaintext update fetch; UI:R because an admin must view the update page; chain reaches root command execution so C/I/A:H.

6DescriptionCVE.org
The device's update mechanism retrieves metadata for software updates over an unencrypted HTTP connection and stores portions of that metadata for later use. A management interface subsequently returns this stored value in a JSON response, and the web interface responsible for displaying update information inserts that value directly into the page as HTML. This behavior allows attacker‑controlled metadata to be interpreted as script content. In addition, the same authenticated origin provides an interface capable of executing system‑level commands with root privileges. An attacker able to influence update metadata could exploit these conditions to execute arbitrary code within the administrative context of the device.
AnalysisAI
Update metadata fetched over plain HTTP by Lantronix G520 series devices (reported against firmware 2.6.0.4R6 stable, covering G526, G526RP, G527 and G528 models) can be tampered with so that a stored value is later served by the management interface as JSON and rendered as raw HTML by the update-information web page, allowing attacker-controlled script to run in an authenticated administrator's browser. Because the same authenticated origin also exposes an interface that executes system-level commands with root privileges, an attacker who can inject metadata can escalate from script execution to arbitrary code execution in the device's administrative context. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the attacker to influence the software-update metadata that the device retrieves over an UNENCRYPTED HTTP connection - i.e., an on-path/adversary-in-the-middle position against that update channel (reflected as AT:P). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The vendor CVSS 4.0 base score is 7.7 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | The primary fix is to install the current Lantronix firmware release for the G520 Series from the vendor's latest-firmware page (https://ltrxdev.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/LTRXTS/pages/1889828865/Latest+firmware+for+the+G520+Series+G526+G526RP+G527+G528) and to confirm the fixed version against the Lantronix vulnerability library and CISA advisory ICSA-26-272-01 (https://www.cisa.gov/news-events/ics-advisories/icsa-26-272-01); the exact patched build number is listed in those vendor sources rather than in the CVE record, so verify the version before and after upgrading. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory all Lantronix G520-series devices (G526, G526RP, G527, G528) and identify any running firmware 2.6.0.4R6 stable; restrict management and update-information web interfaces to trusted administrative networks, block outbound plain HTTP update metadata fetches where possible, and instruct administrators not to open the update-information page while on untrusted networks. …
