| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated account with subscriber role or above, so the site must permit user registration (default-open registration is typical for directory/classified-ad deployments, the plugin's core use case). The affected feature accepts a user-supplied URL that the server fetches without validation, so the site must expose that server-side fetch functionality and the target internal addresses must be reachable from the web server. No user interaction beyond the attacker's own action is needed (UI:N). Limiting factors: low-privilege authentication is mandatory (PR:L), impact is confidentiality-only and limited, and versions before 8.9.5 are vulnerable - updating to 8.9.5 remediates. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity server-side request forgery (CWE-918) with a provider CVSS of 5.0 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:N). The network vector and low complexity make exploitation trivial, but the PR:L requirement is the key limiter: an attacker must hold at least a subscriber account, which is only meaningful on Directorist sites that permit open/self-registration (common for directory/classified-ad sites, which is the plugin's core use case). Impact is confidentiality-only and limited (C:L, I:N, A:N) - this is effectively a blind/limited SSRF letting an authenticated low-privilege user coerce the server into requesting internal addresses, useful for internal network mapping, hitting cloud metadata endpoints, or reaching services otherwise firewalled from the internet, rather than direct data exfiltration or code execution. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or public POC is present in the provided data, so there is no signal of active exploitation; this is a patch-during-normal-cycle issue, not an emergency. Exploitation status: no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The scope change (S:C) reflects that the request originates from the vulnerable web server but affects other internal systems - a defensible SSRF scoring choice. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker registers a subscriber account on a Directorist-powered directory site that allows self-registration, then submits a crafted URL to the vulnerable server-side fetch feature pointing at an internal address (e.g., http://169.254.169.254/ cloud metadata or an internal service). The server issues the request on the attacker's behalf, enabling internal reconnaissance or access to otherwise unreachable endpoints. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis; the flaw was reported by WPScan. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 23, 2026
Server-side request forgery in the Directorist: AI-Powered Business Directory, Listings & Classified Ads WordPress plugin (versions before 8.9.5) lets any authenticated user with subscriber-level access or above supply a URL that the server then fetches without validation, causing the WordPress host to issue requests to internal addresses and services. Exploitation requires only a low-privilege account, which is realistic on directory and classified-ad sites that typically enable open registration, and the request succeeds without any victim interaction. Impact is limited to confidentiality (CVSS 5.0, C:L), there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and updating to 8.9.5 remediates the issue.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: 8.9.5 - upgrade the Directorist plugin to version 8.9.5 or later; per the advisory the fix is available from the vendor, and WPScan documents the issue at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/a5279c4b-ce91-4322-b5c3-70cd1d6d3ba8/ (see also https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-84046). If immediate upgrade is not possible, compensating controls should target the two prerequisites: first, remove the low-privilege foothold by disabling open registration or restricting the subscriber role on directory sites (trade-off: reduces legitimate user sign-ups, which may break the plugin's core directory workflow), and second, restrict the server-side URL-fetch feature to trusted roles or disable it entirely until patched (trade-off: loss of legitimate remote-content functionality). Additionally, apply outbound egress filtering so the WordPress web server cannot reach RFC1918 ranges, loopback (127.0.0.0/8, ::1) and link-local/metadata endpoints such as 169.254.169.254 (trade-off: may block legitimate plugin integrations that call internal services). A WAF rule blocking requests whose parameters contain internal hostnames or IP literals provides a stopgap but is easily bypassed via DNS rebinding or redirects and should not be relied on alone.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The vulnerability is an instance of CWE-918 (Server-Side Request Forgery) in the Directorist WordPress plugin, which is built for AI-assisted business directories, listings and classified ads. A plugin feature accepts a user-supplied URL and performs a server-side fetch on it without validating the destination against an allowlist or blocking private, loopback and link-local address ranges. Because the request originates from the web server itself, the attacker can pivot the fetch into the internal network - for example toward cloud instance metadata endpoints, internal admin panels, or services bound only to localhost - and use timing, error messages, or reflected responses as an oracle to read limited data. The CVSS vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:N/A:N reflects a network-reachable flaw requiring low-privilege authentication (PR:L) with no user interaction (UI:N); the scope-change flag (S:C) captures the fact that the compromised component reaches resources beyond its own security boundary, while the low confidentiality score and absent integrity/availability impacts reflect the read-oriented, partially blind nature of a typical SSRF. No affected CPE strings were supplied, but the EUVD entry lists Directorist versions 0 through below 8.9.5 as impacted, and the vulnerability was reported through WPScan.
