Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires network reachability to the APITable nginx gateway - if the instance is internet-facing with default routing, no other prerequisite exists. No authentication of any kind is needed because the requiredLogin = false annotation causes ResourceInterceptor to bypass all session and API-key validation before either endpoint executes. There is no special configuration to enable, no specific platform version of the client, and no required user interaction. The primary limiting factor is network isolation: deployments where the nginx gateway is not externally accessible (e.g., fully air-gapped or internal-only) require an attacker to first obtain a foothold on that network segment. Only accounts in the 30-day deletion cooling-off period are surfaced by the enumeration endpoint, though the close endpoint is callable with any userId obtained by other means.

Impact

The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N, score 8.8) accurately reflects the attack surface: no authentication, no special network position, no user interaction, and no prerequisite configuration are required. The impact split - VC:L for account enumeration and VI:H for irreversible data destruction - matches the two-phase nature of the attack. No EPSS score was included in the intelligence feed, no CISA KEV entry exists, and no public POC has been identified, which moderates immediate exploitation pressure. However, the attack requires only two standard HTTP POST requests and no tooling beyond curl, meaning the practical barrier to exploitation is extremely low; any operator running a public-facing APITable instance should treat remediation as urgent regardless of the absence of confirmed in-the-wild exploitation. The CVSS vector and description are fully consistent with one another - there is no conflict between the stated network attack vector and the actual attack path described.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker with HTTP access to an internet-exposed APITable nginx gateway sends an unauthenticated POST to /api/v1/internal/getUserHistories, receiving a list of user IDs for accounts currently in the deletion cooling-off period. The attacker iterates over those IDs and posts to /api/v1/internal/users/{userId}/close for each, which irreversibly wipes each account's personal data, cancels subscriptions, removes workspace memberships, and revokes OAuth bindings. No exploit code has been publicly released at time of analysis, but the attack requires only standard HTTP tooling and carries no prerequisite knowledge of target accounts beyond what the enumeration endpoint discloses.

AnalysisAIv1 – Aug 27, 2026

Unauthenticated remote destruction of pending-deletion accounts is possible in APITable through 1.13.0-beta.1, where two internal user-management endpoints are reachable by any network client without credentials. The InternalUserController annotates both getUserHistories and closePausedUserAccount with requiredLogin = false, causing ResourceInterceptor to skip all session and API-key validation; the bundled nginx gateway forwards every /api request to the backend, giving external attackers a direct path. An attacker can enumerate accounts in the 30-day deletion cooling-off window and then permanently destroy each one - wiping PII, cancelling subscriptions, removing space memberships, and revoking OAuth bindings - with no possibility of recovery. No public exploit code or CISA KEV listing has been identified at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

No vendor-released patched version has been confirmed at time of analysis; operators should monitor the upstream repository at https://github.com/apitable/apitable and the VulnCheck advisory at https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/apitable-through-1.13.0-beta.1-missing-authentication-on-the-internal-account-closure-endpoints for a fix release. As an immediate compensating control, add nginx deny directives blocking external access to the paths /api/v1/internal/getUserHistories and /api/v1/internal/users/*/close, restricting those paths to trusted internal network ranges only; this does not correct the underlying authentication bypass but prevents remote exploitation. A broader measure is to require VPN or authenticated-proxy access for the entire /api/v1/internal/ prefix, since other internal endpoints may share the same annotation pattern. Operators should note that blocking these paths at the gateway may affect internal tooling or automation that legitimately calls these endpoints and should audit such dependencies before applying the restriction.

Technical ContextAI · show details

APITable (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:apitable:apitable:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is an open-source collaborative spreadsheet and database platform whose backend is a Spring-based Java application. The root cause is CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function): a custom requiredLogin = false annotation on two methods in InternalUserController signals ResourceInterceptor to return immediately without performing any authentication check, confirmed at commit 88b24ce9f359cc434778be75d03603182882dc76 in the upstream repository. The product ships with an nginx reverse proxy configured to forward all /api/* traffic to the backend service, providing no network-layer enforcement against external clients reaching these paths. The 30-day cooling-off window is a deliberate user-safety mechanism allowing reversal of deletion requests, but the closePausedUserAccount path permanently clears email, phone number, and nickname; cancels space subscriptions; removes space memberships; and deletes OAuth bindings, making the account unrecoverable once the endpoint is called.

DescriptionCVE.org

APITable through 1.13.0-beta.1 annotates both getUserHistories and closePausedUserAccount in InternalUserController with requiredLogin = false. ResourceInterceptor honours that annotation by returning before any session or API key is validated, and the nginx gateway shipped with the product proxies every /api request to the backend server, so both endpoints are reachable by any unauthenticated client that can reach the gateway. An attacker can POST to /api/v1/internal/getUserHistories to enumerate the accounts sitting in the 30-day cooling-off period that follows a deletion request, then POST to /api/v1/internal/users/{userId}/close for each one. The closure path clears the account's email address, phone number and nickname, cancels its space subscriptions, removes its space memberships and deletes its OAuth bindings, so the cooling-off window that exists to let a user reverse a deletion request is bypassed and the account cannot be recovered.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

APITable versions 1.13.0-beta.1 and earlier expose an unauthenticated pathway to permanently destroy user accounts, including all associated personal data, subscription records, and authentication credentials-with no recovery mechanism. Organizations operating affected versions face immediate risk of losing critical customer accounts and revenue streams without any audit trail of compromise. The irreversible nature of account destruction and potential regulatory exposure necessitate urgent remediation.

Business Impact: Severe
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: (1) Restrict network access to /api/user/* endpoints using firewall IP allowlisting to internal or trusted networks only; (2) Deploy Web Application Firewall rules to block external requests to the getUserHistories and closePausedUserAccount endpoints; (3) Enable real-time alerting on account deletion operations with automated notifications to security operations; (4) Maintain daily encrypted database backups with documented rapid-restore procedures to recover deleted user records; (5) Monitor session and authentication logs for anomalies indicating compromise attempts.
