| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that NeuVector be configured to use SAML SSO against a corporate IdP that is SHARED with at least one other relying-party application, and that the attacker already possesses a legitimate account on one of those other applications behind that same IdP. The limiting factors are significant: the target must run NeuVector's SAML authentication (not the local/LDAP/OIDC paths), the IdP must issue assertions the attacker can obtain and replay, and the attacker needs valid credentials somewhere in the same federation (PR:L / AT:P). It does NOT require any pre-existing NeuVector account, admin access, or user interaction by a victim. Deployments using a dedicated IdP relying-party or IdP-side per-application audience enforcement are not exposed. |
| Impact | This is a genuine, high-priority authentication flaw despite the absence of exploitation telemetry. The vendor CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H) describes a remote, low-complexity bypass gated only by an attack requirement (AT:P) and a low privilege (PR:L) - namely, that the attacker already holds a legitimate account on some other application behind the same corporate IdP. The root cause is concrete and reliably reproducible: NeuVector fails to validate the SAML assertion's Audience/AudienceRestriction, generating but never reading the NotInAudience warning, so an assertion minted for a wiki/ticketing/expenses app is accepted verbatim. There is no probabilistic 'maybe it triggers' element - if the misconfiguration path is present it works deterministically. Signals are limited: no EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC are present in the input, so there is no evidence of active or automated exploitation (no public exploit identified at time of analysis). SSVC framework values were not supplied. The one conflict worth flagging is the privilege model: the attacker holds NO privilege on NeuVector itself, so PR:L reflects credentials on a DIFFERENT app federated to the same IdP - verify this reading against the vendor advisory. Net: high real-world severity for organizations running NeuVector with SAML SSO on a shared enterprise IdP, but the shared-IdP prerequisite and lack of exploit tooling keep it from being an emergency mass-exploitation event. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An employee who legitimately holds an account on a corporate wiki or ticketing tool federated to the same IdP as NeuVector authenticates there and captures the SAML assertion the IdP issues. Because NeuVector never checks the assertion's Audience, that assertion is replayed to NeuVector's SAML SSO endpoint and is accepted, logging the outsider into the container-security console. No public exploit code is identified in the provided data; the technique relies on standard SAML assertion handling rather than a bespoke tool. |

SAML SSO authentication bypass in SUSE NeuVector lets anyone who legitimately holds an account on another application behind the same corporate identity provider log into NeuVector without ever having been granted a NeuVector account. NeuVector's SAML service provider handler never validates the assertion's <Audience> element, so a bearer assertion minted for a wiki, ticketing system, or expenses tool is accepted verbatim; the internal NotInAudience warning is produced but never read, which is the CWE-287 improper-authentication root cause. Exploitation is not free - it requires SAML authentication to be enabled against an IdP shared with at least one other relying party and valid credentials in that same federation (PR:L, AT:P) - but it needs no NeuVector account, no admin rights, and no victim interaction, and it yields high confidentiality and integrity impact; there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no CISA KEV entry, so this is a high-priority authentication defect rather than a confirmed actively exploited one.
RemediationAI
Apply the fix published in the NeuVector GitHub Security Advisory (GHSA-wgg5-24xq-px35) and confirm the fixed build with the SUSE bugzilla advisory (https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2026-78425); no vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis with a specific version number, so treat the advisory pages as the source of the exact upgrade target and verify audience validation is enforced after upgrading. If you cannot patch immediately, the highest-value compensating control is to stop sharing an IdP relying party with NeuVector: register NeuVector as a dedicated SAML application/service provider in the IdP so that assertions issued for the wiki or ticketing system are rejected at the IdP and never reach the NeuVector ACS endpoint - the trade-off is additional IdP configuration and provisioning work. Alternatively, change NeuVector's IdP-side audience/entity ID to an application-specific value and enforce an audience restriction policy at the IdP, accepting that any existing generic 'SSO for everything' configuration will break. Disabling SAML entirely in favor of NeuVector's local, LDAP, or OIDC authentication removes the attack path but forfeits federated SSO and may disrupt non-interactive integrations; if SAML must stay enabled, restrict via the IdP which users may access the NeuVector application so the federated population does not implicitly include every wiki/ticketing/expenses user, and alert on NotInAudience log entries in the NeuVector manager as a detection signal for replay attempts. Network-level restrictions such as limiting reachability of the NeuVector manager UI to management networks reduce exposure surface but do not address the underlying missing check.

Technical ContextAI · show details
NeuVector is a Go-based container and Kubernetes security platform (now under SUSE) whose management console supports SAML 2.0 Web Browser SSO as a service provider. Under the SAML Web Browser SSO profile, a service provider must verify that the <Audience> (or AudienceRestriction) of an incoming bearer assertion actually names it, precisely so that an assertion issued for one relying party cannot be replayed at another. This implementation skips that check: the audience mismatch is detected internally and surfaced as a NotInAudience condition, but the handler never consumes that signal and proceeds to establish an authenticated session. The result is a cross-application assertion replay / audience-confusion bug - CWE-287 (Improper Authentication) - where the trust boundary of the shared identity provider is the only thing an attacker must cross, and any other relying party behind the same IdP becomes a pivot into NeuVector. The CPE string cpe:2.3:a:go:github.com/neuvector/neuvector:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* identifies the affected Go module with no version constraint, meaning the flaw is version-agnostic across the project's SAML path rather than limited to a single release line. Note the assessed CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N) is materially consistent with the published CVSS 4.0 vector's AT:P and PR:L prerequisites: the attack is network-reachable and unauthenticated against NeuVector itself, but the attacker must already be a valid user of some other application federated to the same IdP.

DescriptionCVE.org
Authorised users of outside applications behind the same corporate identity provider (IdP), for example, a wiki, a ticketing system, an expenses tool, or anything they legitimately hold an account on can log into their system via SAML SSO. The IdP issues an assertion to them. If that assertion is presented to NeuVector, NeuVector accepts it because the only thing distinguishing "an assertion for NeuVector" from "an assertion for the wiki" is the element, and the NotInAudience warning that reports the mismatch is never read.

Executive ViewAI
SUSE NeuVector's SAML single sign-on implementation contains an authentication bypass (CVE-2026-78425) that lets any authenticated user with valid credentials in a shared corporate identity provider federation - including users who were never granted a NeuVector account - log into the container security platform. Because NeuVector enforces runtime container security policies, such unauthorized access could allow an attacker to view sensitive workload data and modify or disable critical security controls, materially weakening the organization's container defense posture. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but the absence of a vendor patch makes immediate compensating controls essential.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: disable SAML SSO and use local accounts with MFA; restrict network access to the NeuVector UI/API to trusted management networks; if SAML must remain enabled, register NeuVector as a dedicated SAML application in a dedicated identity provider and enforce strict audience validation at a reverse proxy or WAF; monitor identity provider and NeuVector logs for cross-application SAML assertion reuse.
