Embedded report tokens are shared with unauthenticated viewers so PR:N and AC:L hold; high confidentiality/integrity via owner impersonation, with limited availability impact.

DescriptionCVE.org

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, an unauthenticated user who has an embedded report token could download the associated search job dispatch archive, recover session material, and use it to access all relevant data available to the report owner and affect system integrity, including by performing administrative actions when the owner holds the "admin" Splunk role. The vulnerability is possible because embedded report access does not block Representational State Transfer (REST) API dispatch archive download requests. For more information see Additional configuration for embedded reports (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/create-dashboards-and-reports/reporting-manual/9.1/report-management/additional-configuration-for-embedded-reports) and About configuring role-based user access (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/administer/manage-users-and-security/10.4/manage-splunk-platform-users-and-roles/about-configuring-role-based-user-access) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

Improper access control in Splunk Enterprise (versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14) lets anyone holding an embedded report token download the underlying search job's dispatch archive over the REST API, recover session material, and impersonate the report owner. Because embedded reports are designed to be shared with unauthenticated viewers, an attacker can read all data the owner can access and, if the owner holds the admin role, perform administrative actions. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires that the Splunk Enterprise deployment has embedded reports configured and that the attacker possesses a valid embedded report token-these tokens are intentionally shared with unauthenticated viewers (e.g., embedded in external web pages), so obtaining one is often trivial and does not constitute authentication (consistent with PR:N). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:L, score 9.4) signals a low-complexity, unauthenticated, network-reachable attack with high confidentiality and integrity impact-an unusually severe profile because embedded report tokens are meant to be distributed to unauthenticated audiences, effectively making the token a public artifact rather than a secret credential. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker obtains an embedded report token-often exposed in the HTML or JavaScript of any public page where the report is embedded-and, instead of loading the rendered report, sends a crafted REST API request to download the report's search job dispatch archive. From the archive they recover session material and impersonate the report owner, reading all data available to that user; if the owner is an admin, they escalate to administrative actions. …
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Splunk Enterprise 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14 (or later) on the corresponding release branch, per Splunk advisory SVD-2026-0801 (https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
