In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a low-privileged user that does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles could inject Structured Query Language (SQL) through the Representational State Transfer (REST) API, causing Splunk Enterprise to evaluate attacker-controlled text as part of a database query. The SQL injection is possible because the REST API incorporates user-supplied filter values into database queries without proper neutralization.
AnalysisAI
SQL injection in Splunk Enterprise's REST API allows low-privileged authenticated users to embed attacker-controlled SQL fragments into backend database queries, potentially exposing data beyond their authorized scope. Four actively maintained version branches are affected - 9.4.x, 10.0.x, 10.2.x, and 10.4.x - with patched releases available across all branches per the vendor advisory SVD-2026-0801. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires a valid Splunk Enterprise user account that does not hold the 'admin' or 'power' role - any standard low-privileged account is sufficient per the CVE description. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N scores 4.3 (Medium), reflecting a network-accessible, low-complexity attack requiring only a low-privileged account, with limited read-only confidentiality impact. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An insider or attacker who has obtained a low-privileged Splunk Enterprise account (one without admin or power role) sends a crafted HTTP request to the Splunk REST API management port, embedding SQL metacharacters into a filter parameter. The unparameterized query construction causes Splunk's backend database to evaluate the injected SQL, allowing the attacker to enumerate tables or extract data rows beyond their authorized scope. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to a patched release corresponding to your active branch: 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
