phpMyFAQ before 4.1.7 contains a SQL injection vulnerability in the glossary create and update endpoints caused by truncating an escaped string before embedding it in a SQL literal. Authenticated users with glossary add or edit permissions can craft a payload with a dangling backslash to escape the closing quote and inject arbitrary SQL commands to read sensitive database information.
AnalysisAI
SQL injection in phpMyFAQ before 4.1.7 allows authenticated low-privileged users to exfiltrate and manipulate database contents via the glossary create and update endpoints. The flaw stems from a string truncation defect that breaks SQL escaping: when an escaped string is truncated before embedding in a SQL literal, a trailing backslash can dangle, escaping the closing quote and allowing arbitrary SQL injection. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an authenticated session with an account that holds glossary 'add' or 'edit' permissions in phpMyFAQ. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N) scores 8.6, reflecting low attack complexity and high data impact despite requiring low-privilege authentication. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker with a low-privileged account that has glossary add or edit permissions sends a crafted POST request to the glossary create or update endpoint, embedding a value designed to be truncated such that a backslash appears at the end of the escaped string. The dangling backslash escapes the closing SQL quote, allowing the attacker to append arbitrary SQL clauses - for example, a UNION SELECT to extract password hashes, API keys, or other sensitive rows from the database. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade phpMyFAQ to version 4.1.7 or later, which resolves the truncation-before-escaping defect in the glossary endpoints. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
