Exploitation Conditions

Exploitation requires the attacker to (1) hold HIGH-privilege authenticated access (administrator account) to the device web/management interface, and (2) have ADJACENT network access to that interface (same LAN or management segment per AV:A), not arbitrary internet reachability. The specific trigger is the device BACKUP function, where attacker-controlled input is passed to an OS shell without sanitization. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: the PR:H requirement means an attacker must already be authenticated as admin, and AV:A means the management plane must be reachable from the attacker's network segment. Affected only on RUTOS 7.22-before 7.24.6 and 7.25-before 7.25.2 (RUT/RUTX/RUTM/RUTC/ATRM/CAP/OXA/DAP/TRB/OTD/EBG), RUTOS 7.22-before 7.25.2 (TAP), and TSWOS 1.9-before 1.10.4 (TSW/SWM); upgrading past these versions removes the condition.

Impact

This is a command injection flaw (CWE-78) in the backup function of Teltonika Networks RUTOS/TSWOS devices. The provided CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:A/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N, VC/VI/VA:H) scores 8.5 (High), and the metrics tell a more nuanced story than the raw score: exploitation requires HIGH privileges (PR:H - i.e. an already-authenticated administrator) and ADJACENT network access (AV:A), not open internet reachability. Note a CONFLICT in the source data: the description states a 'remote authenticated attacker,' but the CVSS vector specifies AV:A (adjacent/local network), not AV:N (network) - defenders should treat this as adjacent-network exploitation (same LAN/management segment) rather than fully internet-remote until the vendor clarifies. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no POC were provided, so there is no evidence of active or probable exploitation - this is currently a priority driven by impact severity (full C/I/A on the device) rather than by demonstrated exploitability. In practical terms, the PR:H requirement means an attacker must already hold admin credentials, which substantially downgrades real-world risk versus an unauthenticated RCE; the primary threat models are a malicious/compromised low-trust admin escalating to OS-level code execution, or credential compromise on the management network. The vulnerability was reported by Teltonika itself (tlt_net), and patches are available, so this is a patch-management priority rather than an emergency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker with valid administrative credentials and access to the device's management network (adjacent, not necessarily internet-facing) crafts a malicious parameter in the device backup function that is passed unsanitized to a shell, injecting arbitrary OS commands. Successful exploitation yields full command execution on the underlying RUTOS/TSWOS system, enabling complete device takeover. No public exploit identified at time of analysis.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 13, 2026

Command injection in the backup function of Teltonika Networks RUTOS and TSWOS allows an attacker who already holds high-privilege administrative access on an adjacent network segment to execute arbitrary OS commands on the device. Affected builds are RUTOS 7.22 before 7.24.6 and 7.25 before 7.25.2 on RUT, RUTX, RUTM, RUTC, ATRM, CAP, OXA, DAP, TRB, OTD and EBG devices, RUTOS 7.22 before 7.25.2 on TAP devices, and TSWOS 1.9 before 1.10.4 on TSW and SWM devices. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and the assessed prerequisites (PR:H for administrator credentials plus AV:A for management-plane adjacency) mean exploitation is not reachable by an arbitrary internet attacker; patched firmware is available.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade RutOS to 7.24.6 or later on the 7.22 branch, to 7.25.2 or later on the 7.25 branch, and TSWOS to 1.10.4 or later; TAP devices on RutOS 7.22 should move to 7.25.2. Reference the Teltonika security centre advisory at https://www.teltonika-networks.com/support/security-centre?report=CVE-2026-75826++ and confirm the running firmware version on each device before and after the update. Where patching must be staged, the compensating controls that directly address the two prerequisites are the most effective: restrict the management interface so it is reachable only from a trusted management VLAN or an out-of-band path (this neutralizes the AV:A adjacency requirement, at the cost of losing remote web administration from general user segments), and reduce standing administrator accounts to the minimum necessary while enforcing unique credentials and, where supported, disabling or tightly scoping remote management access (this addresses the PR:H requirement, though it does not fix the underlying injection). Because exploitation requires existing admin-level access, any device potentially exposed to a compromised or malicious administrator should be treated as fully compromised - rotate credentials, review configuration and backup logs, and reflash known-good firmware rather than relying on removal of the malicious artifact alone. There is no evidence of public exploit code or active exploitation, so emergency out-of-band mitigation is not required; scheduled firmware maintenance within normal patch windows is appropriate.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The defect is a classic OS command injection (CWE-78) rooted in improper neutralization of special elements used in an OS command. Within the device's backup functionality, attacker-influenced input is passed to a system shell without adequate sanitization, so shell metacharacters supplied through the backup workflow are interpreted as commands rather than data, yielding arbitrary command execution in the context of the affected process on the router or switch. The CPE data identifies two distinct affected product namespaces: cpe:2.3:a:teltonika_networks:rutos (the Linux-based RutOS firmware powering the cellular, industrial and branch routers and gateways) and cpe:2.3:a:teltonika_networks:tswos (the switch firmware). Because the flaw lives in the backup code path rather than in an exposed network service, the attack surface is the device management web/management interface, and the CVSS v4.0 vector (AV:A/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) confirms that both adjacent network positioning and high privileges are required - the attacker must already be authenticated as an administrator and be able to reach the management plane from the same LAN or management segment. This materially narrows the threat model compared with an unauthenticated remote exploit, and it also explains why the practical risk is dominated by insider, post-compromise, or laterally-positioned-actor scenarios rather than mass internet scanning.

DescriptionCVE.org

Command injection in the backup function in Teltonika Networks RUTOS 7.22 before 7.24.6 and 7.25 before 7.25.2 (RUT, RUTX, RUTM, RUTC, ATRM, CAP, OXA, DAP, TRB, OTD, and EBG devices), RUTOS 7.22 before 7.25.2 (TAP devices), and TSWOS 1.9 before 1.10.4 (TSW and SWM devices) allows a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary OS commands.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Teltonika Networks RUTOS and TSWOS devices contain a high-severity command injection flaw (CVE-2026-75826) that could let an attacker with existing administrative credentials on an adjacent network segment run arbitrary OS commands. Although exploitation requires high privileges and network adjacency, a successful attack could compromise affected routers, switches, and industrial gateways, potentially enabling lateral movement or persistent access within the organization's network. Leadership should prioritize tracking firmware updates because these devices often sit at network edges or in remote sites.
