AC:H reflects the required sibling-directory naming precondition plus the .json job file; S:C and C:H capture high confidentiality impact on the neighboring system; I:L accounts for job file deletion on the subsequent system.

DescriptionCVE.org

Kirby is an open-source content management system. Prior to 4.9.5 and 5.5.2, depending on the release line, Kirby's media handler used incomplete filesystem containment checks in src/Filesystem/Dir.php and src/Filesystem/F.php through Kirby\Filesystem\Dir::realpath() and Kirby\Filesystem\F::realpath(). The checks accepted a sibling directory whose path shared the intended root's string prefix, such as /var/www/site2 next to /var/www/site, because they did not require an exact match or a DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR boundary. A remote attacker could use Kirby\Cms\Media::thumb() to create and access thumbnails from image files in a PHP-readable sibling directory when that directory contained a valid .json thumbnail job file, potentially exposing staging sites, backups, or other internal sites and deleting the job file during processing. This issue is fixed in versions 4.9.5 and 5.5.2.

AnalysisAI

Path traversal in Kirby CMS's filesystem containment logic allows remote unauthenticated attackers to access image files in PHP-readable sibling directories that share a string prefix with the Kirby installation root, and to create thumbnails from those files via the media handler. Versions prior to 4.9.5 (4.x line) and 5.5.2 (5.x line) are affected, with the impact limited to subsequent-system confidentiality exposure - staging sites, backups, or co-hosted internal sites - rather than the Kirby instance itself. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Three specific conditions must all be satisfied simultaneously for exploitation to succeed. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 6.9 with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:H captures the split nature of this risk: network-accessible and unauthenticated, yet bounded by a hard precondition (AT:P) requiring a PHP-readable sibling directory with a valid `.json` thumbnail job file. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to Kirby CMS 4.9.5 (4.x line) or 5.5.2 (5.x line), as confirmed by the vendor GitHub release tags at https://github.com/getkirby/kirby/releases/tag/4.9.5 and https://github.com/getkirby/kirby/releases/tag/5.5.2. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
