DescriptionCVE.org

Grav plugin-api before 1.0.15 contains a script injection vulnerability where the SVG sanitizer only checks for the exact extension 'svg', allowing .svgz and .xhtml files to bypass sanitization and be stored unsanitized. Attackers with api.media.write permission can upload files containing executable script payloads that execute in the site origin when accessed by administrators or visitors.

AnalysisAI

Script injection in Grav plugin-api before 1.0.15 enables authenticated users holding api.media.write permission to upload .svgz or .xhtml files that bypass the platform's SVG sanitizer, storing executable script payloads server-side. The sanitizer's incomplete extension check - recognizing only the exact string 'svg' - leaves these semantically equivalent vector/XML formats unprocessed, allowing stored cross-site scripting payloads to execute in the Grav site origin when subsequently accessed by administrators or visitors. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires that the attacker hold valid credentials for an account explicitly granted the api.media.write permission on the target Grav installation - this permission is not assigned by default and must be deliberately provisioned. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:P) reflects a moderate and well-bounded risk: the attack is network-accessible with low complexity but is gated by a required low-privilege credential (api.media.write) and passive victim interaction before payload execution. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker who has obtained api.media.write credentials - through account compromise, insider access, or over-provisioned API tokens - crafts a .svgz file embedding a JavaScript payload targeting session cookies or CSRF actions. The file is submitted to the media upload API endpoint and stored on the server without sanitization because the extension check does not match 'svgz'. …
Remediation Upgrade Grav plugin-api to version 1.0.15 or later, which resolves the incomplete extension check in the SVG sanitizer; this is the vendor-confirmed fix per GHSA-66xf-ggf4-6hmc (https://github.com/getgrav/grav/security/advisories/GHSA-66xf-ggf4-6hmc). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
