| Exploitation Conditions | Two concrete prerequisites must be met. First, the targeted generic webhook must have a secret_token value configured in its triggered node's input_default; generic webhooks without a secret_token have no signature check to bypass and are not protected regardless. Second, the attacker must know a valid webhook_id UUID for such a secret-protected generic webhook - the UUID is not publicly enumerable through the normal API, so exploitation is limited to scenarios where the UUID has been shared with, logged for, or otherwise exposed to an untrusted party. The bypass does not work against webhooks whose stored provider already matches the URL provider (e.g., compass webhooks accessed via the /compass/ path are unaffected). Exploitation is entirely remote and requires no account or session on the AutoGPT Platform instance. |
| Impact | The CVSS 3.1 base score of 8.2 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:N) accurately reflects that network-reachable, unauthenticated exploitation requires no special privileges and no user interaction. The integrity impact is rated High because a successful bypass executes a user's workflow graph as that user, potentially chaining downstream actions. Confidentiality impact is Low, reflecting incidental data exposure during workflow execution. The main practical friction is webhook UUID discovery: generic webhook IDs are likely UUIDs that are not publicly enumerable, which raises real-world AC beyond what AC:L implies - even a mid-sized municipal IT team in mielec relying on AutoGPT automation should treat this as urgent if their webhook UUIDs are shared with third-party callers or logged in accessible locations. EPSS data was not supplied; no KEV entry exists, and no public POC has been identified, so active mass exploitation is not confirmed. The PR diff and accompanying test suite (TestProviderPathConfusion) confirm the attack path is well-understood by the vendor. The vulnerability is exploitable only against webhooks that have a secret_token configured - unprotected webhooks are unaffected since there is no secret to bypass. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who has obtained or guessed the UUID of a generic webhook configured with a secret_token sends an unauthenticated HTTP POST to /compass/webhooks/{uuid}/ingress, omitting or supplying an incorrect X-Webhook-Secret header. The server selects CompassWebhookManager, whose inherited no-op verify_signature returns without checking the header, and the associated workflow graph executes under the webhook owner's identity. No public proof-of-concept code has been identified, but the attack is mechanically straightforward given a known webhook UUID. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 11, 2026
Webhook signature verification bypass in AutoGPT Platform before 0.6.70 allows unauthenticated remote attackers to trigger execution of secret-protected generic webhook graphs as their registered owner. The flaw stems from the ingress router selecting the webhook manager from the untrusted URL provider path segment rather than from the stored webhook record, meaning a request routed through the /compass/ path invokes CompassWebhookManager's inherited no-op verify_signature instead of GenericWebhooksManager.verify_signature, neutralizing the X-Webhook-Secret guard entirely. No public exploit or CISA KEV listing has been identified at time of analysis, but the fix is available in the confirmed release v0.6.70.
RemediationAI
Upgrade to AutoGPT Platform v0.6.70 or later, available at https://github.com/Significant-Gravitas/AutoGPT/releases/tag/autogpt-platform-beta-v0.6.70. The fix (commit 646dd5b8cfad1206e92ec7bcc3b8312657e2a92e, PR #13559) adds a provider mismatch check immediately after fetching the stored webhook: if webhook.provider does not case-insensitively match the URL provider segment, the route returns HTTP 404 with the same response body as a genuinely absent webhook, preventing provider enumeration. If immediate upgrade is not possible, a compensating control is to restrict network-level access to the /webhooks/*/ingress endpoints to trusted source IPs only, reducing the population of potential callers who could attempt provider path confusion; note this does not fix the root cause and may break legitimate third-party webhook senders. Rotating existing secret_token values after patching is advisable if UUID disclosure to third parties is suspected.

Technical ContextAI · show details
AutoGPT Platform's backend (cpe:2.3:a:significant-gravitas:autogpt:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) exposes a webhook ingress route at /webhooks/{webhook_id}/ingress where the leading path segment is the provider name. The router uses get_webhook_manager(provider) - with provider drawn from the URL - to instantiate the manager responsible for cryptographic signature verification. BaseWebhooksManager.verify_signature is a no-op that all unsigned providers like Compass inherit without override. GenericWebhooksManager overrides it to check the X-Webhook-Secret header against the stored secret_token. Because the code previously fetched the stored webhook record but never cross-checked webhook.provider against the URL provider, the URL segment controlled which verifier ran. CWE-287 (Improper Authentication) captures this class precisely: the system accepts a provider-controlled input as a trust decision without validating it against an authoritative stored value.

2DescriptionCVE.org
AutoGPT is a workflow automation platform for creating, deploying, and managing continuous artificial intelligence agents. Prior to 0.6.70, AutoGPT's autogpt_platform/backend/backend/api/features/integrations/router.py webhook_ingress_generic route selected get_webhook_manager(provider) from the untrusted provider URL segment without verifying webhook.provider, allowing a request to /compass/webhooks/{webhook_id}/ingress to use CompassWebhookManager's inherited no-op BaseWebhooksManager.verify_signature instead of GenericWebhooksManager.verify_signature, bypass X-Webhook-Secret for a configured secret_token, and execute a generic webhook graph as its owner. This issue is fixed in version 0.6.70.
Executive ViewAI
AutoGPT Platform versions before 0.6.70 contain a critical webhook authentication bypass allowing unauthenticated attackers to execute secret-protected automation workflows. Organizations relying on AutoGPT webhooks for business process integration face risk of unauthorized execution of sensitive automated tasks without proper authorization controls.
Apply vendor patch. Until upgrade is completed, disable all non-critical webhook integrations and restrict network access to webhook endpoints to known authorized source IP addresses and systems only.
