MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires one of two conditions: (1) the SiYuan instance is running in disabled-auth mode, enabling fully anonymous network access to static routes, or (2) the attacker possesses a valid publish reader token for an otherwise-authenticated instance. In both cases the attacker must be able to reach the SiYuan server over the network. Exploitation is limited by: authentication being enabled and no token being available to the attacker; network-level controls preventing external access to the SiYuan port; and the scope of impact being confined to read-only access to templates, snippets, and export artifacts - write and delete operations are not exposed by this bypass. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 score of 6.9 with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N reflects the most permissive exploitation path: anonymous network access against an instance running with authentication disabled. In that configuration no credential is required, complexity is low, and there are no attack-technique prerequisites. When authentication is enabled, exploitation requires a publish reader token (PR:L equivalent), which narrows the realistic attacker pool to holders of legitimately or illegitimately obtained tokens. The confidentiality impact is limited - only templates, snippets, and export artifacts are exposed; there is no indication of integrity or availability impact, and the vulnerable-system and subsequent-system impacts in the 4.0 vector are both set to Low. EPSS data was not provided, and the vulnerability is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog, suggesting exploitation has not been observed at scale. The practical risk level therefore depends heavily on deployment mode: instances with auth disabled and internet exposure are meaningfully at risk of data exposure, while instances requiring token-based access face a lower but non-negligible insider or token-theft risk. No conflicting signals between the CVSS vector and description were identified. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker discovers a publicly reachable SiYuan instance operating in disabled-auth mode. Without any credentials, the attacker sends HTTP GET requests directly to static file-serving routes - bypassing the REST API's publish-access checks - and retrieves the workspace's templates, user snippets, and previously exported documents. No exploit code is publicly available at time of analysis, but the attack requires only standard HTTP tooling given the low complexity and no-auth conditions. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 12, 2026
Static-route access control bypass in SiYuan before v3.7.4 allows attackers to read sensitive workspace data by directly accessing file-serving routes that skip the authorization checks enforced on the REST API. Affected deployments include any SiYuan instance operating in disabled-auth mode (anonymous access) or where publish reader tokens have been issued, as those token holders can reach templates, snippets, and export artifacts without restriction. No public exploit or active exploitation has been identified at time of analysis, but the patch to v3.7.4 is available and should be applied promptly given the unauthenticated attack vector in disabled-auth configurations.
RemediationAI
Upgrade SiYuan to v3.7.4 or later, which resolves the missing authorization on static routes. The vendor-released patch is confirmed available per the GitHub security advisory at https://github.com/siyuan-note/siyuan/security/advisories/GHSA-fgmr-7w36-9qfq. As a compensating control for deployments that cannot patch immediately, restrict network access to the SiYuan server port using firewall rules or a reverse proxy with IP allowlisting - this directly removes the network-accessible attack vector. Avoid running SiYuan in disabled-auth mode on any network-reachable interface; if publish access is required, ensure it is scoped to trusted network segments. Note that restricting at the network layer does not fix the underlying authorization flaw and tokens already issued remain a risk if the instance is later re-exposed.

Technical ContextAI · show details
SiYuan is a local-first, self-hosted personal knowledge management and note-taking application (cpe:2.3:a:siyuan-note:siyuan:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*). Its server component implements a Go HTTP multiplexer that registers both a REST API and static file-serving routes. The root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): publish-access guards are applied to REST API handlers but were not applied symmetrically to the static-route handlers that serve the same underlying resources - templates, user snippets, and export artifacts. Because the static routes fall outside the access-control middleware chain, a caller who obtains or forges a publish reader token, or who reaches an instance with authentication entirely disabled, can retrieve files that the access-control model was designed to protect.

1DescriptionCVE.org
SiYuan before v3.7.4 contains an access control bypass vulnerability where static-file routes in the server mux bypass publish-access controls enforced on the REST API. Attackers with publish reader tokens or anonymous access in disabled-auth mode can read templates, snippets, and export artifacts by directly accessing static routes that lack the same restrictions as their REST API counterparts.
