| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated OpenCVE account (version prior to 3.0.0) that holds permission to configure notification channels; the attacker abuses the Webhook or Slack integration 'test notification' feature, which does not validate the user-supplied HTTP/HTTPS destination. No user interaction from a victim and no special server configuration is needed - the flaw is present in default builds. Limiting factors: exploitation is gated behind the notification-config privilege (PR:L), so anonymous/unauthenticated actors cannot trigger it, and impact escalates most in cloud deployments where the metadata service (169.254.169.254) is reachable from the OpenCVE host. |
| Impact | This is a mid-severity, real-but-not-urgent issue. The vendor CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N = 6.5) is well-supported by the description: an authenticated OpenCVE user who holds the 'configure notification channels' permission can coerce the server into making HTTP/HTTPS requests to internal hosts, localhost, link-local, and cloud metadata (169.254.169.254), then read back responses - a classic non-blind SSRF, hence C:H with no integrity or availability impact. I concur with the 6.5 score; one could argue S:C for SSRF, but for an in-application outbound fetch S:U is defensible. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code were provided - only the vendor fix (GHSA-ch3g-4xvr-674q, PR #747, commit, and the v3.0.0 release). Exploitation status is therefore: no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The PR:L gate (attacker must already have an account with notification-config rights) meaningfully limits blast radius and argues against widespread opportunistic exploitation; risk is highest for internet-exposed multi-user OpenCVE instances running in cloud environments where metadata endpoints expose credentials. Net: prioritize patching for cloud-hosted, multi-tenant deployments; lower urgency for single-admin or internal-only instances. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated OpenCVE user with permission to configure notification channels creates a Webhook or Slack integration pointing at http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/ (or an internal service), then triggers the 'test notification' function. The OpenCVE server issues the request and returns the reachable HTTP service's response to the attacker, enabling harvesting of cloud instance credentials or internal service data. No public exploit code was identified, but the vulnerability class is trivially exploitable once the actor has the required permission. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 18, 2026
Server-side request forgery in OpenCVE versions prior to 3.0.0 lets an authenticated user who holds permission to configure notification channels force the OpenCVE server to issue HTTP or HTTPS requests to arbitrary attacker-chosen destinations, including localhost interfaces, RFC1918 internal ranges, link-local addresses and the cloud metadata endpoint 169.254.169.254, with the response content retrievable by the attacker. The prerequisite is the notification-configuration privilege (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, CWE-918), so anonymous actors cannot trigger it, and the practical impact is highest in cloud-hosted deployments where an instance metadata service is reachable from the OpenCVE host; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis. The issue is fixed in OpenCVE 3.0.0.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade OpenCVE to 3.0.0, which is the release that contains the SSRF validation module and the DNS-pinning, blocklist and IP-range checks described in GHSA-ch3g-4xvr-674q and PR 747 (see github.com/opencve/opencve/security/advisories/GHSA-ch3g-4xvr-674q and github.com/opencve/opencve/releases/tag/v3.0.0). Until the upgrade is applied, the most effective compensating control is to restrict who can configure notification channels, since the flaw requires that privilege; revoking it from non-administrative accounts removes the attack path entirely, at the cost of limiting self-service integration setup. Second, constrain outbound egress from the OpenCVE host with network policy or host firewall rules that deny traffic to 169.254.169.254, link-local and RFC1918 ranges unless a specific integration requires them - this blunts both internal reconnaissance and cloud credential theft, but can break legitimate webhook or Slack delivery if the organisation runs an internal proxy and must be scoped to the OpenCVE workload only. Third, where OpenCVE runs on AWS, enforce IMDSv2 with a low hop limit so that any SSRF request that reaches the metadata endpoint cannot retrieve instance credentials, though this does not stop the HTTP-status or content disclosure against other internal services and is therefore a mitigation rather than a fix.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The root cause is CWE-918 (server-side request forgery) in OpenCVE's notification-channel feature: the Webhook and Slack integration 'test notification' action accepted a user-supplied HTTP/HTTPS URL and performed the outbound request server-side without validating the resolved destination, so any address routable from the OpenCVE host - loopback, RFC1918, link-local, IPv6 unique-local, or the AWS/GCP/Azure metadata IP 169.254.169.254 - could be contacted and its HTTP response surfaced back to the requester. The remediation commit (0af7f894debc95c67fa53e7ba5a6cdecb10c34f0, PR 747) adds a dedicated SSRF protection module (web/opencve/utils/ssrf.py) that allowlists only http and https schemes, blocks hostnames such as 'localhost', '0' and 169.254.169.254, rejects decimal/hex/octal IP shorthands that evade ipaddress parsing, treats IPv6 unique-local (fc00::/7) and IPv4-mapped addresses as blocked, validates every address returned by DNS resolution against private/loopback/link-local/multicast/reserved/unspecified ranges, and pins the validated DNS results for the subsequent request via a thread-local getaddrinfo wrapper with a redirect cap of three hops. Affected products per the CPE cpe:2.3:a:opencve:opencve:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* are all OpenCVE builds shipped before the 3.0.0 release.

OpenCVE is a vulnerability intelligence platform. Prior to 3.0.0, OpenCVE notification testing for Webhook and Slack integrations does not sufficiently validate user-supplied HTTP or HTTPS destinations. An authenticated user with permission to configure notification channels can trigger requests to hosts reachable from the OpenCVE server, including internal network resources, localhost interfaces, link-local addresses, and cloud metadata services, and retrieve information from reachable HTTP services. This issue is fixed in version 3.0.0.
