SSRF inherently changes scope as the server fetches attacker-chosen external URLs; AC:H because attacker must control WSDL/XSD content reaching the parser.

DescriptionCVE.org
Zeep is a Python SOAP client. From 4.0.0 before 4.3.3, Settings.forbid_external is defined but not enforced when parsing WSDL or XSD documents, allowing transitive xsd:import, xsd:include, wsdl:import, and lxml entity or DTD references to fetch attacker-chosen HTTP or HTTPS URLs. This issue is fixed in version 4.3.3.
AnalysisAI
Server-Side Request Forgery in Python Zeep 4.0.0 through 4.3.2 allows an attacker who can influence WSDL or XSD content parsed by the library to bypass the explicit Settings.forbid_external security control, causing the server to issue HTTP or HTTPS requests to attacker-chosen URLs via transitive xsd:import, xsd:include, wsdl:import, or lxml entity and DTD references. The vulnerability is particularly significant because it defeats a documented security setting that developers actively configure to prevent external fetching - applications relying on this control are silently unprotected. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that the targeted application uses Python Zeep versions 4.0.0 through 4.3.2 to parse a WSDL or XSD document whose content the attacker can influence - either by supplying a WSDL URL (common in SOAP integration platforms that accept user-defined service endpoints), by performing a man-in-the-middle attack on an unprotected WSDL fetch, or by hosting a malicious SOAP service that references attacker-controlled secondary documents via transitive imports. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The NVD-assigned CVSS 3.1 score of 5.9 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N) reflects High confidentiality impact but acknowledges High attack complexity, acknowledging that exploitation requires the attacker to control or influence the WSDL/XSD content being parsed. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker operating a malicious SOAP service, or with the ability to tamper with a WSDL document fetched by an application, embeds a transitive xsd:import directive referencing an internal URL such as http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/ (cloud IMDS) or an internal admin API. When the Zeep client application parses the WSDL on startup or connection, Zeep follows the reference and issues an HTTP GET to the attacker-chosen URL, returning response content that may be observable through error messages, logs, or timing - enabling internal network reconnaissance and potential credential theft from cloud metadata. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade to Python Zeep version 4.3.3 or later, which is the vendor-confirmed fix per the GitHub release at https://github.com/mvantellingen/python-zeep/releases/tag/4.3.3 and associated commit https://github.com/mvantellingen/python-zeep/commit/83eb07bc6c84d841329d4f88856fecdba86f753e. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
