| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated admin-panel account with the default role site_admin or higher; this is the primary limiting factor and rules out unauthenticated attackers. The vulnerable path is the editor oEmbed proxy (the download/getUrl fetch in system/functions.php), which reflects the fetched response body back to the requester. Exploitation specifically requires supplying a host the IPv4-only validateUrl guard cannot resolve for private-range checking - namely a bare IPv6 literal or a domain that publishes only an AAAA record - so hosts with an A record are still blocked. Real-world impact further depends on the deployment having reachable internal services or a cloud metadata endpoint (e.g., a cloud-hosted instance exposing IAM credentials); an isolated on-prem install with no sensitive internal HTTP targets yields little. Affects Vvveb versions prior to 1.0.8.6. |
| Impact | This is a credible but access-gated server-side request forgery issue, not a wormable emergency. The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:N, 7.6 High) correctly captures the dominant constraint: PR:H means exploitation requires an authenticated admin-panel account (default role site_admin or higher), so there is no path for an anonymous internet attacker. AC:L is appropriate because triggering the bypass is trivial once authenticated - supply an IPv6 literal or an AAAA-only hostname to the oEmbed proxy. The scope change (S:C) and C:H are justified because the flaw reaches beyond the application into internal-only services and cloud metadata (IAM credentials), which is the real prize. No EPSS score, KEV entry, or public POC was supplied in the input; the only exploit-adjacent artifact is the vendor patch commit, which demonstrates the root cause but is not weaponized exploit code. Net assessment: genuine priority for any Vvveb deployment running on a cloud instance with an exposed metadata endpoint, but the PR:H requirement keeps it out of the mass-exploitation tier. No conflicting signals were detected between the CVSS vector and the description - both agree on network vector plus privileged access. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated Vvveb user with site_admin (or higher) role opens the page-builder editor and submits an oEmbed URL pointing at an IPv6 literal or a domain carrying only an AAAA record, which the IPv4-only SSRF guard fails to inspect. The server-side proxy fetches the attacker's chosen internal target and reflects the response body back to the user, letting them read cloud metadata such as http://[fd00::...]/ or the metadata service to harvest IAM credentials. No public exploit was identified at time of analysis, though the patch commit publicly reveals the exact bypass mechanism. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 01, 2026
Server-side request forgery in Vvveb CMS builds prior to 1.0.8.6 allows an authenticated admin-panel user (default role site_admin or higher) to make the editor's oEmbed proxy fetch attacker-chosen URLs server-side and read the reflected response body, exposing internal-only HTTP services and cloud metadata endpoints including IAM credentials. The bypass works because Vvveb's SSRF guard resolves hosts with an IPv4-only function, so a bare IPv6 literal or a domain publishing only an AAAA record never matches the private-range check, while hosts with an A record remain blocked. Exploitation is access-gated by the PR:H requirement and by whether the deployment actually exposes reachable internal services or a metadata endpoint; no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The issue is patched in 1.0.8.6.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Vvveb 1.0.8.6 (https://github.com/givanz/Vvveb/releases/tag/1.0.8.6), which rewrites validateUrl() to resolve and pin all addresses, including IPv6, before the oEmbed proxy fetch and closes the IPv4-only gap (commit e27d1ef097a8502c33f8cc94271c948407c5dce3, advisory GHSA-r6g4-5m3x-xrqj). If immediate upgrade is not possible, reduce the attack surface by restricting who holds site_admin or higher privileges, since exploitation requires an authenticated admin-panel account, and by disabling or blocking the oEmbed proxy route at the web-server or WAF layer - the trade-off is that legitimate embed functionality stops working. Additionally enforce outbound egress filtering from the Vvveb host so RFC1918, loopback, link-local (169.254.169.254 and fe80::/10) and unique-local (fc00::/7) destinations are unreachable, which defeats this SSRF class entirely but may break other server-side integrations that legitimately call internal APIs. On cloud deployments, require IMDSv2 and, where supported, disable the instance metadata service or restrict it to a hop limit of 1, so that even a successful fetch cannot yield IAM credentials.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The vulnerability is CWE-918 (server-side request forgery) in Vvveb's system/functions.php. Two fetch helpers, download() and getUrl(), call validateUrl() and then pin the request with CURLOPT_RESOLVE so the resolved address cannot be re-pointed by DNS rebinding. The guard, however, enumerated host addresses with PHP's gethostbynamel(), which returns IPv4 A records only. Any hostname with no A record yielded an empty list and looped zero times, so no private/reserved/loopback/link-local rejection ever fired, and a bare IPv6 literal was likewise never inspected. The editor's oEmbed proxy is the reachable sink: it accepts an attacker-supplied URL, performs the server-side fetch, and returns the fetched body to the caller, turning a blind SSRF into a readable one capable of harvesting cloud instance metadata and IAM credentials. The fix (commit e27d1ef097a8502c33f8cc94271c948407c5dce3) changes validateUrl() to return an array of pinned host:443:[ip] resolution entries and passes that array to CURLOPT_RESOLVE in both callers, and returns an empty array instead of an empty string on rejection. The CVSS vector's S:C scope change reflects that the impact escapes the Vvveb component boundary into other internal services reached from the server.

2DescriptionCVE.org
Vvveb is a powerful and easy to use CMS with page builder to build websites, blogs or ecommerce stores. Prior to version 1.0.8.6, Vvveb's SSRF guard resolves a host with an IPv4-only function and never inspects IPv6, so any host that lacks an A record passes a private-range check. Editor oEmbed proxy fetches an attacker-supplied URL server side and reflects a response body, so an authenticated admin-panel user (default role site_admin or higher) can read internal-only services and cloud metadata, including IAM credentials, using an IPv6 literal or a domain that carries only an AAAA record. This issue has been patched in version 1.0.8.6.

Executive ViewAI
Vvveb CMS deployments running builds earlier than 1.0.8.6 contain a server-side request forgery flaw that lets an existing privileged admin-panel user redirect the editor's oEmbed proxy to internal-only services and cloud metadata endpoints, potentially exposing infrastructure details and cloud IAM credentials. Because stolen cloud credentials can extend well beyond the website itself, the realistic blast radius is the organization's cloud environment rather than a single application. Leadership should treat this as a contained but credential-compromising issue: access is gated by a privileged CMS account, yet the downstream consequences of credential theft could be severe.
Apply vendor patch: Vendor-released patch: 1.0.8.6. Where the upgrade cannot be applied immediately, block server-initiated egress from the CMS host to internal ranges and cloud metadata endpoints (covering IPv6 literals and AAAA-only hosts), and strictly limit site_admin and higher roles.
