3DescriptionCVE.org
django CMS is an easy-to-use and developer-friendly enterprise content management system powered by Django. Prior to 5.0.8, the copy_plugins endpoint in cms/admin/placeholderadmin.py authorizes only the destination clipboard. The _copy_plugin_to_clipboard and _copy_placeholder_to_clipboard paths accept source_placeholder_id and source_plugin_id values but use has_copy_plugins_permission and check_source only for the requesting user’s clipboard, without validating the source placeholder. Under CMS_PERMISSION, a staff user with the global add permission for a plugin type can copy plugins from an unauthorized page or placeholder into the user’s clipboard and read secret text, link names, and URLs. This issue is fixed in versions 5.0.8.
AnalysisAI
Unauthorized content disclosure in django CMS prior to 5.0.8 allows authenticated staff users to exfiltrate plugin content - including secret text, link names, and URLs - from restricted pages and placeholders they are not authorized to access. The vulnerability resides in the copy_plugins admin endpoint (cms/admin/placeholderadmin.py), where the clipboard copy paths validate only the destination (the user's own clipboard) while accepting attacker-controlled source_placeholder_id and source_plugin_id parameters without any source-side authorization check. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires all of the following specific conditions: (1) the django CMS instance must have CMS_PERMISSION=True configured in Django settings - this is the access control mode that establishes per-placeholder and per-page restrictions; without it, all staff have uniform content access and no privilege boundary exists to bypass; (2) the attacker must be an authenticated Django staff user (is_staff=True) holding at least the global 'add' permission for one plugin type, such as add_link - the test case confirms a user with only add_link suffices; (3) the CMS must contain at least one placeholder with content that the attacking staff user is not authorized to access through the normal placeholder/page permission model. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 6.5 Medium rating (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N) reflects a network-exploitable, low-complexity confidentiality breach, substantially limited by the requirement for an existing authenticated staff account - this is not an unauthenticated IDOR. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to django CMS 5.0.8 immediately via pip install 'django-cms>=5.0.8'; this is the only supported remediation per the vendor advisory at https://github.com/django-cms/django-cms/security/advisories/GHSA-4xfr-4p46-gc6p, which explicitly states no workarounds are available. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
