MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Initial Access, Execution The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires: (1) a victim who is a currently logged-in TS3 Manager operator with a valid session; (2) that victim to follow an attacker-crafted top-level link to the /api/download handler with a malicious port query parameter (UI:R - user interaction is mandatory); and (3) the vulnerable version prior to 2.2.6, which lacks a Content-Security-Policy header and does not sanitize the reflected port value. The maximum impact (full TeamSpeak server takeover) additionally requires that the targeted operator uses administrative ServerQuery credentials; otherwise only the operator's session/JWT is compromised. The attacker themselves needs no authentication. These factors - mandatory phishing of a privileged, authenticated user and dependence on the operator holding admin ServerQuery creds - meaningfully limit real-world exploitability. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but conditionally-gated risk, not a drive-by remote-code threat. The CVSS 8.2 is driven by S:C (the reflected script escapes into the manager's trusted browser origin) and C:H (theft of a JWT containing a CLEARTEXT ServerQuery password). However, exploitation is bounded by two facts the CVSS vector encodes correctly: UI:R (a logged-in operator must click an attacker-crafted top-level link) and the requirement that a valid operator session already exist. The PR:N is defensible because the ATTACKER needs no credentials - the burden of authentication falls on the victim. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV entry, and no public exploit code were provided, so there is no signal of active or automatable exploitation; this is a targeted social-engineering-dependent XSS, not a wormable flaw. The impact ceiling (full TeamSpeak server control) only materializes 'when the operator uses administrative ServerQuery credentials' - otherwise the disclosed JWT grants lesser access. Net: patch-worthy for anyone running TS3 Manager with admin ServerQuery creds, but real-world exploitation requires phishing a specific privileged operator, keeping practical risk moderate despite the high score. Source code confirms the vulnerability (unsanitized port reflected via res.send without CSP) and the fix (added CSP header + sanatizePort/sanatizeHostname), so the mechanism is verified, not merely claimed. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a malicious link to the TS3 Manager's /api/download endpoint with a port query parameter containing HTML/JavaScript, then phishes a logged-in operator into clicking it. The reflected error message executes in the manager origin, reads the non-HttpOnly token cookie, and invokes the autofillform socket event to retrieve the decoded JWT - including the cleartext ServerQuery password - enabling session hijacking and control of the managed TeamSpeak server. No public exploit code was identified, but the patch diff publicly discloses the exact vulnerable sink and payload location. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 17, 2026
Reflected cross-site scripting in TS3 Manager prior to 2.2.6 allows an attacker to execute script in the manager's origin when a logged-in operator follows a crafted link to the /api/download handler carrying a malicious port query parameter. Because the token cookie set by the UI store lacks HttpOnly, Secure, and an explicit SameSite attribute, the injected script can read the operator's token and invoke the autofillform socket event, which returns the decoded JWT - including the cleartext ServerQuery password - enabling operator-session hijacking and, when the operator holds administrative ServerQuery credentials, full control of the managed TeamSpeak server. The CVSS vector indicates the attacker needs no prior authentication (PR:N) but user interaction is mandatory (UI:R), meaning the attacker must phish a currently authenticated operator; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis and the issue is not in CISA KEV. A vendor-released patch is available in 2.2.6.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: 2.2.6 - upgrade TS3 Manager to v2.2.6 (https://github.com/joni1802/ts3-manager/releases/tag/v2.2.6), which applies input sanitization to the port and hostname values and adds a Content-Security-Policy header; the upstream fix is in commit 48df540786d2784c5d7b9bd55786d63e31288d07. Where immediate upgrade is not possible, deploy a reverse-proxy CSP that restricts script-src to 'self' (and only the storage.googleapis.com origin needed for the service worker) to neutralize inline reflected script execution, and set the token cookie with HttpOnly and Secure plus SameSite=Strict or Lax to prevent script read-back - note that adding HttpOnly may break any legitimate client-side code that currently reads the token, so test against the UI before enforcing it broadly. Operators should also avoid following untrusted top-level links while logged in, and should replace administrative ServerQuery credentials with least-privilege accounts so that a hijacked session cannot yield full TeamSpeak server control; the trade-off is reduced administrative convenience for routine management tasks. Because exploitation requires a logged-in operator to click a crafted link, shortening session lifetimes and re-authenticating after any suspected exposure further limits the window in which a stolen JWT remains valid.

Technical ContextAI · show details
CVE-2026-54253 is a CWE-79 reflected cross-site scripting defect in the Node.js/Express backend of TS3 Manager, a web interface for administering TeamSpeak 3 servers. The /api/download route in packages/server/routes/api.js takes the attacker-controlled port query parameter and passes it directly to net.Socket.connect(port, host); when the connection fails, the resulting error.message is returned via res.status(400).send(error.message) as text/html without sanitization and, prior to the fix, without any Content-Security-Policy header - so the reflected value is parsed and executed as markup in the manager's origin. The client-side token cookie created in packages/ui/src/store/modules/query.js is set without HttpOnly, Secure, or an explicit SameSite attribute, which lets the injected script read the token and call the autofillform event registered in packages/server/socket.js. That handler returns the decoded JWT, which embeds the cleartext ServerQuery password, turning a reflected XSS into credential disclosure and session hijacking. The fixing commit (48df540786d2784c5d7b9bd55786d63e31288d07) adds a CSP header (script-src 'self' https://storage.googleapis.com, with googleapis excluded for the service worker script) and introduces sanatizer.sanatizePort and sanatizer.sanatizeHostname applied to req.query.port, res.locals.host, and the x-file-transfer-port header.

Lifecycle Timeline
2DescriptionCVE.org
TS3 Manager is modern web interface for maintaining Teamspeak3 servers. Prior to 2.2.6, the /api/download handler in packages/server/routes/api.js passes the attacker-controlled port query parameter to socket.connect(port, host) and returns the resulting error.message through res.status(400).send(error.message) as text/html without a Content Security Policy. When a logged-in operator follows a crafted top-level link, the reflected value executes in the manager origin. The token cookie set in packages/ui/src/store/modules/query.js lacks HttpOnly, Secure, and an explicit SameSite attribute, allowing the script to read the token and call the autofillform event in packages/server/socket.js. autofillform returns the decoded JWT, including the cleartext ServerQuery password, enabling operator-session hijacking and control of the managed TeamSpeak server when the operator uses administrative ServerQuery credentials. A valid operator session and user interaction are required. This issue is fixed in 2.2.6.
Technical POC Analysis
CWE-79 (reflected cross-site scripting) in TS3 Manager's own application code, not in a library.
Full technical POC analysis - root cause, step-by-step exploitation and patch breakdown - is part of the Pro and Business plans.
Executive ViewAI
TS3 Manager, the web console used to administer TeamSpeak voice servers, contains a HIGH-severity flaw (CVSS 8.2) that lets an attacker hijack a logged-in operator's session simply by getting them to click a crafted link. Because the stolen session token can expose ServerQuery credentials - including cleartext administrative passwords - a successful attack can hand an outside party full control of the managed TeamSpeak server, its configuration, and its user data. Leadership should care because the attack targets trusted administrators, requires no credentials of the attacker's own, and the resulting compromise is effectively complete control of a business communications platform.
Apply vendor patch. Until 2.2.6 is deployed, restrict manager access to trusted networks and specific source addresses, require operators to log out after administrative work, shorten session/token lifetimes, rotate ServerQuery credentials, and set HttpOnly, Secure, and SameSite on the token cookie via reverse-proxy header injection where feasible.
