DescriptionCVE.org
Improper access control in Windows Audio Compression Manager (ACM) allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges locally.
Executive ViewAI
The Windows Audio Compression Manager contains a local privilege escalation flaw (CVE-2026-50351) affecting a broad enterprise footprint-Windows 10 (all recent versions), Windows 11, and Windows Server 2012-2025. Authenticated users can escalate privileges to compromise system integrity, enabling lateral movement and insider threats. Microsoft has released a patch; prioritized deployment mitigates this material risk to system security.
Within 24 hours: inventory all systems running affected Windows versions (10 versions 1607-22H2, 11 versions 24H2-26H1, Server 2012-2025) and prioritize critical infrastructure. Within 7 days: deploy the Microsoft-released patch to critical and high-value systems using your standard patch management process. Within 30 days: complete patch deployment across the enterprise and confirm all affected systems are remediated.
Apply vendor patch.
