Open ISES Tickets before 3.44.2 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in ticketsmdb_import.php that allows authenticated attackers to inject arbitrary JavaScript by passing an unsanitized value through the multiple POST parameters (mdbhost, mdbdb, mdbuser, mdbpassword, mdbprefix, ticketshost, ticketsdb, ticketsuser, ticketspassword, ticketsprefix) directly into HTML form hidden input value attributes. Attackers can craft a malicious request containing a JavaScript payload that executes in the victim's browser when the response is rendered.
AnalysisAI
Reflected cross-site scripting in Open ISES Tickets before version 3.44.2 allows JavaScript injection via ten unsanitized POST parameters in ticketsmdb_import.php, with payloads executing in the victim's browser upon response rendering. The vendor-released patch v3.44.2 addresses this as part of a critical security update that simultaneously fixed 88 vulnerabilities including 69 XSS and 19 SQL injection issues across the codebase, suggesting systemic input sanitization failures rather than an isolated defect. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis, and this CVE is not listed in the CISA KEV catalog.
Technical ContextAI
Open ISES Tickets is a PHP-based ticketing and helpdesk application. The vulnerability (CWE-79: Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation) resides in ticketsmdb_import.php, a database import/migration module that accepts database connection parameters via POST. The affected parameters - mdbhost, mdbdb, mdbuser, mdbpassword, mdbprefix, ticketshost, ticketsdb, ticketsuser, ticketspassword, and ticketsprefix - are reflected verbatim into hidden input value attributes in the HTML form response without encoding or sanitization. Because these are POST parameters, exploitation requires the attacker to induce a victim to submit a crafted form request (e.g., via cross-site form submission). Affected products per CPE: cpe:2.3:a:open_ises:tickets:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A) places this as a network-reachable, low-complexity issue requiring active user interaction, with subsequent scope impact on confidentiality and integrity (SC:L/SI:L).
RemediationAI
The primary fix is upgrading to Open ISES Tickets v3.44.2, available at https://github.com/openises/tickets/releases/tag/v3.44.2. The specific remediation commit is ecfeb406a016766cae81c749e14b5145a9f2dbff (https://github.com/openises/tickets/commit/ecfeb406a016766cae81c749e14b5145a9f2dbff). For traditional deployments, download the v3.44.2 zip, extract over the existing installation, and run the installer in Upgrade mode. For Docker deployments, execute 'docker compose pull && docker compose up -d'. Given the release simultaneously patches 19 SQL injection vulnerabilities and removes hardcoded secrets, upgrade is strongly preferable over workarounds. If immediate upgrade is not feasible, restricting access to ticketsmdb_import.php via web server configuration (e.g., IP allowlist or require authentication at the server level) is a viable compensating control, with the trade-off of disabling the database import feature entirely. Note that v3.44.2 also modifies SSL certificate validation behavior (now enforced by default) and changes file permissions; review operational dependencies before deploying in sensitive environments.
