DescriptionCVE.org

Wazuh is a free and open source platform used for threat prevention, detection, and response. From 4.0.0 until 4.14.6 and 5.0.0-beta2, WazuhCommon.end_receiving_file() in framework/wazuh/core/cluster/common.py allows a cluster-authenticated node to delete files outside WAZUH_PATH. A syn_i_w_m_e request with an unknown task_id reaches the cleanup branch, where an attacker-controlled filename is passed to os.path.join without canonicalization or confinement. Absolute paths and traversal sequences can therefore target files such as ossec.conf, jwt_secret.json, TLS certificates, and ruleset files that are accessible to the Wazuh manager process. Deletion can disable the manager, invalidate API tokens, or disrupt cluster and API connectivity. This issue is fixed in versions 4.14.6 and 5.0.0-beta2.

AnalysisAI

Arbitrary file deletion on a Wazuh manager via the cluster synchronization protocol allows a cluster-authenticated attacker to destroy critical files including ossec.conf, jwt_secret.json, and TLS certificates, effectively disabling the manager or invalidating all API authentication tokens. The flaw spans Wazuh 4.0.0 through 4.14.5 and the 5.0.0-beta2 pre-release, rooted in missing path canonicalization inside the cluster file-receive cleanup handler. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the ability to communicate as a recognized peer over the Wazuh cluster protocol, specifically TCP port 1516, with a valid cluster authentication credential (the cluster shared secret). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:H/UI:N, score 7.5) captures two critical risk moderators: PR:H limits the attacker population to actors already holding cluster-authenticated node credentials, and AT:P acknowledges that the attack requires a specific deployment condition - an active Wazuh cluster with at least one additional node. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to Wazuh 4.14.6 (stable release, https://github.com/wazuh/wazuh/releases/tag/v4.14.6) or 5.0.0-beta2 (pre-release, https://github.com/wazuh/wazuh/releases/tag/v5.0.0-beta2), both of which include the fix from commit 90d43547d166cdbe65e9a3d011f946214df9179c. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours: inventory all Wazuh manager instances and identify which are running versions 4.0.0-4.14.5 or 5.0.0-beta2 in cluster mode; disable non-essential cluster deployments or isolate vulnerable nodes from cluster communication if operationally feasible. …
