HIGHCVSS Vector
CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:H
Lifecycle Timeline
4Description
dr_libs version 0.14.4 and earlier (fixed in commit 8a7258c) contain a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in the drwav__read_smpl_to_metadata_obj() function of dr_wav.h that allows memory corruption via crafted WAV files. Attackers can exploit a mismatch between sampleLoopCount validation in pass 1 and unconditional processing in pass 2 to overflow heap allocations with 36 bytes of attacker-controlled data through any drwav_init_*_with_metadata() call on untrusted input.
Analysis
Heap buffer overflow in dr_libs 0.14.4 and earlier allows attackers to corrupt memory by supplying maliciously crafted WAV files to any application using drwav_init_*_with_metadata() functions. The vulnerability exploits inconsistent validation of sample loop counts between processing passes, enabling 36 bytes of attacker-controlled data to overflow heap allocations. …

Remediation
Within 24 hours: Identify all applications and systems using dr_libs and document their version numbers and deployment scope. Within 7 days: Prioritize patching for systems that process untrusted audio files or are internet-facing; deploy vendor patch (commit 8a7258c or later) to development and staging environments for testing. …
