Network API reachable (AV:N), deterministic mass-assignment (AC:L), requires investigator account (PR:L), no interaction; escalation to admin crosses a privilege boundary (S:C) yielding full C/I/A.

3DescriptionCVE.org
Velociraptor stores the compiled VQL in the hunt object internally to avoid having to recompile the artifacts for each endpoint in the hunt. Although the field "compiled_collector_args" is an internal field, Velociraptor allowed the field to be set from a user API call. This allows another user who can schedule a hunt (minimal role of "investigator" ) to set the compiled VQL statements for the hunt bypassing any ACL checks that would normally be applied.
This flaw can then be escalated to allow the "investigator" user to run arbitrary VQL statements as an administrator user on the Velociraptor server.
AnalysisAI
Privilege escalation in Rapid7 Velociraptor allows an authenticated user holding only the 'investigator' role to execute arbitrary VQL statements with administrator privileges on the Velociraptor server by populating the internal 'compiled_collector_args' field when submitting a hunt-creation/scheduling API request. Because the server accepts this internal field from the caller, the attacker-supplied pre-compiled VQL is trusted and the ACL checks that normally gate artifact compilation are skipped (CVSS 9.9, AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H). …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Requires an authenticated account holding at least the 'investigator' role with permission to schedule hunts on the Velociraptor server (PR:L). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | This is a genuine high-priority issue, not merely a high-CVSS-but-low-risk case. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch version was specified in the provided intelligence; the authoritative fix guidance is the vendor advisory at https://docs.velociraptor.app/announcements/advisories/cve-2026-19072/, so administrators should consult it and upgrade Velociraptor to the fixed release identified there as the primary remediation. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Recommended ActionAI
Within 24 hours, inventory every account and service principal holding the investigator role or equivalent hunt-creation and scheduling permissions on Rapid7 Velociraptor, reduce that set to the minimum operational need, and audit recent hunt-creation and scheduling API activity for request bodies containing the internal 'compiled_collector_args' field. …
