Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated user with authorization to submit an evaluation job to the lm-evaluation-harness component of Red Hat OpenShift AI (PR:L), who then supplies an attacker-controlled model URL in the JobSpec. The exploitation-enabling condition is that the evaluation job pod dereferences the user-supplied model URL and attaches the tenant's model authentication secret when doing so, and that the pod has network reachability to the targeted internal endpoints for the SSRF leg. Limiting factors: valid tenant job-submission credentials are mandatory (no anonymous/unauthenticated path), no privilege escalation or availability impact is involved, and the internal-SSRF reach is constrained to endpoints routable from the evaluation pod's network namespace. No end-user interaction is required.

Impact

This is a moderate, authentication-gated SSRF (CWE-918) with real but bounded risk. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, base 6.5) is internally consistent with the description: network-reachable, low complexity, requires low privileges (PR:L - an authenticated user who can submit evaluation jobs), and delivers a high confidentiality impact (disclosure of the tenant's model authentication secret) with no integrity or availability impact. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC was provided in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation - the signals are not conflicting, they are simply absent, which is consistent with a recently reported vendor-disclosed flaw rather than a widely weaponized one. The practical risk is driven by the fact that exploitation requires a legitimate authenticated tenant able to submit jobs, which limits the attacker population to insiders or anyone who has already obtained tenant-level job-submission credentials; against that bar, the secret-exfiltration and internal-SSRF primitives are serious in a multi-tenant OpenShift AI environment. Net: a credible priority for RHOAI operators to patch, but not an emergency mass-exploitation scenario.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated tenant user with permission to submit evaluation jobs crafts a JobSpec whose model URL points to an attacker-controlled external listener; when the lm-evaluation-harness evaluation pod fetches that URL it forwards the tenant's model authentication secret, leaking it to the attacker. The same primitive can be aimed at internal addresses (e.g. cloud metadata or internal services) reachable from the evaluation pod to perform SSRF. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and exploitation requires valid low-privilege credentials rather than user interaction.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 21, 2026

An authenticated user who is permitted to submit evaluation jobs in Red Hat OpenShift AI's lm-evaluation-harness component can supply an attacker-controlled model URL in the JobSpec, causing the evaluation job pod to send the tenant's model authentication secret to an external listener the attacker controls. The same user-controlled URL handling allows Server-Side Request Forgery against internal endpoints reachable from the evaluation pod's network namespace, so internal services can be probed or reached with the pod's network position rather than the attacker's. The impact is confidentiality-only (CVSS 3.1 base 6.5, PR:L, C:H/I:N/A:N), no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis, and exploitation is gated on valid tenant job-submission credentials plus network reachability from the pod.

RemediationAI

Patch status is not confirmed from the available data: no vendor-released fixed version was identified at time of analysis, so the first step is to check https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-17557 and Bugzilla 2507452 for the fixed RHOAI release and upgrade lm-evaluation-harness workloads as soon as one is published. In the interim, apply specific compensating controls: restrict the ability to submit evaluation jobs to a small, trusted set of accounts and audit existing job-submission role bindings, since that permission is the sole prerequisite for exploitation; scope the stored model authentication secret to the minimum required model endpoints and rotate it, accepting that rotation breaks live evaluation jobs until they are recreated; enforce an egress network policy on the evaluation job namespace that permits only the approved model registry or artifact host and blocks all other outbound traffic, which directly defeats the external-listener credential leak and sharply narrows the SSRF surface, at the cost of blocking legitimate evaluations against unlisted model sources; and block pod egress to link-local metadata addresses, the Kubernetes API service, and internal service CIDRs from that namespace where feasible, understanding that this may break evaluations that legitimately consume in-cluster model artifacts. Review pod and proxy logs for outbound requests to unfamiliar hosts or internal endpoints issued during evaluation jobs, and treat any such request as potential credential exposure requiring secret rotation.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The lm-evaluation-harness component runs model evaluation workloads for OpenShift AI tenants, and each job is described by a JobSpec that includes a model source URL. The component dereferences that user-supplied URL from inside the evaluation job pod and attaches the tenant's stored model authentication secret to the outbound request - a classic CWE-918 Server-Side Request Forgery pattern in which trust in a user-controlled URL is combined with privileged credential attachment and the network position of an internal workload. Because the request originates from the pod, the attacker borrows the pod's routing and any allowed egress paths, which can reach internal cluster or infrastructure endpoints not otherwise exposed. The credential-leak leg is the higher-severity outcome: pointing the model URL at an attacker-controlled listener causes the secret material to be transmitted outbound. CPE data identifies the affected product as red_hat:red_hat_openshift_ai_(rhoai) with no version granularity published, so version scoping must come from the Red Hat advisory and Bugzilla 2507452. The vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N) confirms the attack is network-reachable and low-complexity but requires an authenticated principal, with no integrity or availability effect and no scope change.

DescriptionCVE.org

A flaw was found in the lm-evaluation-harness component of Red Hat OpenShift AI. An authenticated user, able to submit an evaluation job, could exploit this by providing a malicious model URL in the JobSpec. This vulnerability allows for the disclosure of the tenant's model authentication secret to an attacker-controlled external listener. Additionally, it enables Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) attacks against internal network endpoints reachable from the evaluation job pod.
