| Exploitation Conditions | The DeepInfer profiling HTTP server must be running and bound to a network-reachable interface; pre-patch it bound to 0.0.0.0 by default and exposed the /profile endpoint without authentication (PR:N). The AT:P metric reflects that the profiler collection path must be active/triggerable for the request to succeed. Pre-patch the endpoint accepted GET requests and merged URL query parameters into the request body, which is precisely what enabled cross-site forgery from an operator's browser via <img>/<form> elements. Limiting factors: impact is confined to directory creation, trace-file writes (disk/inode exhaustion), and a filesystem-existence oracle via error messages - there is no code execution or high-impact data disclosure; exploitation also depends on the non-default decision to run the profiler and expose it beyond loopback. The patch binds to 127.0.0.1 by default, restricts the endpoint to POST with JSON body only, and confines output_dir to the DEEPINFER_TORCH_PROFILER_DIR subtree via realpath checks. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but modest-severity issue, not a top-tier emergency. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N) confirms a network-reachable, unauthenticated endpoint with low attack complexity, and all three impacts are rated Low (VC:L/VI:L/VA:L) - there is no code execution, no scope change, and no high-confidentiality exposure. The AT:P (attack requirement present) signal is important: exploitation is contingent on the profiling HTTP server actually running and being reachable, which is a non-default operational condition rather than an always-on surface. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no confirmed working exploit are present in the input, so there is no evidence of active exploitation - only a vendor/VulnCheck-documented flaw with a patch. The vuln.today Decision label is 'this_month', consistent with a patch-on-normal-cadence priority rather than act_now/emergency. In short, the signals are internally consistent: real and remotely reachable, but bounded impact (disk/inode exhaustion plus a filesystem-existence oracle) and gated on the profiler being enabled. Note the input provides no EPSS/KEV data at all, so widespread-exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified from the available signals. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who can reach a DeepInfer node with the profiling HTTP server running (pre-patch it bound to 0.0.0.0 by default) sends a request to the unauthenticated /profile endpoint with a crafted output_dir value containing path traversal sequences, causing the server to create arbitrary directories and write Torch/Chrome trace files outside the intended profiler directory. Because the pre-patch endpoint also honored GET and merged query parameters, the request can be forged cross-site from an operator's browser (e.g. via an <img>/<form> tag), letting the attacker exhaust disk or inodes and use the differing error messages as a filesystem-existence oracle. No public working exploit is identified in the provided data. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 31, 2026
DeepInfer through 0.1.0 ships a profiling HTTP server whose unauthenticated /profile endpoint accepts an attacker-supplied output_dir and writes Chrome trace files to that location, letting remote attackers create directories anywhere the process can reach. Because pre-patch builds bound the server to 0.0.0.0, accepted GET requests, and merged URL query parameters into the request body, a cross-site request from an operator's browser (an <img> or auto-submitting <form>) is enough to trigger collection and force writes; the resulting error messages also act as a filesystem-existence oracle. Impact is bounded to directory creation, disk or inode exhaustion through trace output, and low-confidentiality path disclosure - no code execution is involved, exploitation requires the profiler HTTP server to be running and reachable, and no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, with no CISA KEV listing.
RemediationAI
Upstream fix available (PR/commit); released patched version not independently confirmed - apply the changes in https://github.com/deepseek-ai/DeepInfer/pull/242, which restricts /profile to POST with a JSON body only (GET returns 405 and query parameters are no longer read), resolves output_dir with os.path.realpath and rejects anything outside DEEPINFER_TORCH_PROFILER_DIR with HTTP 400, and introduces the DEEPINFER_PROFILE_HTTP_BIND environment variable defaulting to 127.0.0.1 so the server no longer listens on all interfaces unless explicitly configured to. Until a build containing that PR is deployed, the effective workaround is to stop exposing the profiling server: pre-patch code hardcodes the 0.0.0.0 bind, so block the profiling port at the host or network firewall and avoid running the profiler on any host reachable from browsers or untrusted networks - the trade-off is that multi-node remote profiling stops working until DEEPINFER_PROFILE_HTTP_BIND support is in place. Also point DEEPINFER_TORCH_PROFILER_DIR at a dedicated volume and monitor its free space and inode count, since trace writes can still exhaust the filesystem if a request reaches the endpoint; this limits blast radius but does not remove the traversal. The residual exposure from unpatched error messages acting as a filesystem oracle cannot be filtered out without the realpath containment check.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is a classic CWE-22 path traversal in the FastAPI/uvicorn-based profiling service implemented in deepinfer/engine/profile_server.py. Pre-patch, the /profile route was registered for both GET and POST, and the handler merged request.query_params with the JSON body before validating them into a Params model, so the output_dir value could arrive either in the body or in the URL. That value was then used essentially unchecked as the destination for PyTorch profiler Chrome trace output, and since the server socket was created against 0.0.0.0 there was no network-level restriction by default. The combination of GET support plus query-string parsing is what makes the browser-based cross-site vector work: an <img> tag or a form submission can supply output_dir without any script running in the operator's origin. The realpath-based containment check added in the fix confirms the root cause - traversal sequences and symlinks (e.g. /tmp/link pointing at /etc) were resolved only after the destination had already been chosen, so ../ sequences escaped the intended DEEPINFER_TORCH_PROFILER_DIR tree. Write primitives here are limited to directory creation and trace-file output, which is why impact stays at low confidentiality, integrity and availability rather than code execution.

DescriptionCVE.org
DeepInfer through 0.1.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the unauthenticated /profile endpoint that allows remote attackers to create arbitrary directories via the output_dir parameter. Attackers, including cross-site GET requests from an operator's browser, can write chrome trace files to exhaust disk or inodes and use error messages as a filesystem oracle.
