| Exploitation Conditions | The affected component is the app's local Request Forwarder - a proxy worker that, in versions 0.0.6/0.0.7/0.0.8, accepted any request to its port with no access-token validation. Exploitation requires getting the application to emit or process a crafted proxy request (CVSS UI:P indicates passive user interaction, e.g. a user loading/playing attacker-influenced content), after which the forwarder relays to an attacker-chosen destination. Limiting factors: user interaction is required; impact is limited to SSRF with low confidentiality/integrity/availability effect; and after the patch every proxy URL must carry the per-launch 32-byte random token, which closes the unauthenticated-relay path. The product is a small-footprint open-source player, further limiting real-world exposure. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity SSRF (CWE-918) in the Request Forwarder of MusicFreeDesktop, a niche open-source Electron music player. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:L/VI:L/VA:L, score 5.3) shows network reach, low complexity, and no required privileges, but it hinges on passive user interaction (UI:P) and yields only low impact across confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The source-code patch confirms the mechanism: before the fix the forwarder worker accepted any request to its port with no access token, so proxy URLs could be abused to make the app forward requests to arbitrary destinations; the fix adds a per-launch random 32-byte token that every proxy request must carry. Exploitation signals are mixed and point to low urgency: no CISA KEV listing, no EPSS score provided, and the referenced PoC is a GitHub issue (not verified working exploit code). The vuln.today Decision label is 'this_month' (not act_now/emergency), consistent with a real but non-critical issue rather than a high-CVSS-but-low-real-risk false alarm - the true limiter is the product's very small deployment footprint, not the technical severity. No EPSS data is available, so widespread-exploitation probability cannot be independently assessed. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker lures a user of the MusicFreeDesktop app into playing or loading attacker-influenced content that causes the app to issue a request through the unauthenticated local Request Forwarder. Because the forwarder (pre-patch) relays requests without any access-token check, the attacker steers it to fetch an internal or otherwise restricted URL, receiving the limited response back. A public PoC reference exists (GitHub issue #443); it is not verified as working exploit code. |

Server-side request forgery in the Request Forwarder of MusicFreeDesktop 0.0.6, 0.0.7 and 0.0.8 allows a crafted proxy request to be relayed to an attacker-chosen destination, giving low confidentiality, integrity and availability impact (CVSS 4.0 base 5.3; independently assessed as CVSS 3.1 AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R with low C/I/A). The CVSS vector indicates the attack path is unauthenticated (PR:N) but requires user interaction (UI:P/UI:R), for example a user loading or playing attacker-influenced content that causes the app to emit a proxy request; the exact trigger is not described in the available sources. A public PoC reference exists in the form of GitHub issue #443, but it is not verified as working exploit code, there is no CISA KEV listing, and the vendor fix is upstream commit b0d3876247a0a64fa0e430e4b21870e41f503182.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor fix, upstream commit b0d3876247a0a64fa0e430e4b21870e41f503182 (https://github.com/maotoumao/MusicFreeDesktop/commit/b0d3876247a0a64fa0e430e4b21870e41f503182), which makes the Request Forwarder worker reject any request that does not carry the per-launch random token and updates the renderer IPC to GET_INFO/INFO_CHANGED; the available data states the patch is available from the vendor but does not name a released version number, so rebuilding from or updating to a release that contains that commit must be verified against the repository. The vendor's position is that applying the patch is the recommended fix. Because exploitation requires the application to emit or process a crafted proxy request following user interaction with attacker-influenced content, the only interim measure supported by the available data is to avoid loading or playing untrusted third-party sources that can drive the forwarder until a patched build is in place, with the trade-off of reduced access to those sources; the pre-patch forwarder listens on a local port that accepts any request, so there is no token or configuration setting disclosed in the sources that would otherwise close the relay path.

Technical ContextAI · show details
MusicFreeDesktop is an Electron-based desktop music player that ships a 'Request Forwarder' module under src/infra/requestForwarder: a worker process that listens on a local port and relays HTTP requests on behalf of the renderer (for example proxied stream/Range requests during playback), with the main process publishing the port to the renderer over IPC (originally IPC.GET_PORT / PORT_CHANGED). In 0.0.6-0.0.8 that listener accepted requests to its port without any access-token validation, which is the CWE-918 (server-side request forgery) condition: the forwarder will relay to a destination that the request origin should not be able to reach. The fix in commit b0d3876247a0a64fa0e430e4b21870e41f503182 changes the trust model rather than the URL parser: the main process generates a per-launch 32-byte random token (crypto.randomBytes(32).toString('hex')) and sends it to the worker in an 'init' message on spawn, the worker only accepts requests carrying that token in the 'token' query parameter (TOKEN_PARAM), and the IPC surface is renamed from GET_PORT/PORT_CHANGED to GET_INFO/INFO_CHANGED so the renderer receives {port, token}. The token is deliberately retained across worker restarts so already-issued proxy URLs, such as in-flight audio Range requests, remain valid.
