| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated REDAXO backend user to be lured into visiting an attacker-controlled page while their backend session is active; the attacker needs no credentials. The destructive clearall path (permanent deletion of all article snapshots) specifically requires the victim to be an administrator, because the history administration page sits under the system page. The snap rollback path requires only a victim holding the history[article_rollback] permission. Both actions were reachable as plain GET requests via rex_request() against $_REQUEST with no CSRF token, and REDAXO's default SameSite=Lax session cookie is still sent on a top-level GET navigation, so no form submission or JavaScript on the target was needed. Limiting factors: required user interaction (victim must open the malicious page while logged in), the victim's privilege level gating which action succeeds, and the fix in 5.21.3 which enforces token validation. Only versions <=5.21.2 are affected. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but modest-priority issue. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:A) describes a network-reachable, low-complexity CSRF requiring active victim interaction, with impact limited to integrity and availability of content/history data (VC:N/VI:L/VA:L) and no scope change - consistent with the 5.1 Medium score and the vendor's 'this_month' priority rather than act_now/emergency. No KEV listing and no EPSS score were provided, and no public exploit or PoC reference is present in the sources, so there is no signal of active or widespread exploitation; the detailed GHSA root-cause writeup is advisory material, not working exploit code. The key limiter is that the attacker gains no privileges of their own - exploitation depends entirely on a logged-in backend user (an administrator for the destructive clearall path, or a holder of the history[article_rollback] permission for the snap path) being lured to an attacker-controlled page. Note the PR:N applies to the attacker, who is unauthenticated, even though the attack rides a privileged victim's authenticated session; this is normal for CSRF and not a contradiction. Overall: a real, confirmed, patched weakness worth remediating in the normal cycle, not an emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a web page that, when opened by a logged-in REDAXO backend administrator, navigates the browser to the backend history URL with func=clearall; REDAXO's SameSite=Lax session cookie is sent on the top-level GET, so the action runs in the victim's session and irreversibly deletes all stored article snapshots. A lower-privilege variant uses rex_history_function=snap to silently revert an article to an earlier stored state against a victim holding the article_rollback permission. No public exploit code is identified, though the GHSA advisory documents the exact triggering URLs. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026
REDAXO through 5.21.2 permits cross-site request forgery in its structure/history plugin, letting an attacker who lures a logged-in backend user onto a hostile page permanently wipe every stored article snapshot (func=clearall) or silently roll an article back to an earlier stored version (rex_history_function=snap). Both actions were triggered by plain GET requests without a CSRF token, and the default SameSite=Lax session cookie is still sent on a top-level navigation, so neither a form submission nor target-side JavaScript was required; the destructive clearall path needs an administrator victim, while rollback only needs a victim holding the history[article_rollback] permission. This is a genuine but modest-priority issue: user interaction and victim privilege level constrain it, the attacker gains no content disclosure, no permission change and cannot inject arbitrary content, and no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis. The vendor released a fix in 5.21.3 that enforces token validation on both actions.
RemediationAI
Upgrade REDAXO core to 5.21.3 or later, which is the exact fix version named by the vendor and the Composer package metadata (composer/redaxo/source fixed in 5.21.3). The patch makes both history actions validate a CSRF token: the clearall link now carries the token and additionally requests confirmation before deleting snapshots, and the snapshot restore is issued as an ajax call from history.js with the token supplied alongside the existing history parameters, returning HTTP 403 when the token is invalid instead of silently doing nothing. Advisory details and the root-cause writeup are at https://github.com/redaxo/core/security/advisories/GHSA-vjwx-3c33-xwmc. No separate vendor workaround is documented; the token validation shipped in 5.21.3 is presented as the fix, so installations that cannot update immediately should treat the vulnerable func=clearall and rex_history_function=snap request paths as untrusted until the upgrade is applied.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw is a classic CWE-352 cross-site request forgery in REDAXO's PHP-based article history plugin (structure/history). The plugin read its control parameters through rex_request(), which resolves against $_REQUEST and therefore accepts GET as readily as POST, and it performed two state-changing operations without any token check: the history administration page called rex_article_slice_history::clearAllHistory() whenever func=clearall was present, and the plugin bootstrap called rex_article_slice_history::restoreSnapshot($historyDate, $articleId, $clangId) when rex_history_function=snap was present. The corresponding delete control was a plain anchor without a token or confirmation prompt. Because REDAXO's session cookie defaults to SameSite=Lax, it is still attached to a top-level GET navigation such as a window.location redirect from an attacker page, so the request executes in the victim's authenticated session without any form or JavaScript on the target. The 5.21.3 fix requires a valid token on both paths: the delete link now carries the token and adds a confirmation prompt, and snapshot restore is issued as an ajax call from history.js with the token passed the same way the other history parameters are, with invalid tokens answered by HTTP 403 rather than failing silently. The trigger mechanics for the individual HTTP requests are fully described in the upstream advisory; no memory-safety or injection primitive is involved.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
REDAXO before 5.21.3 contains a cross-site request forgery vulnerability in the structure/history plugin that allows attackers to delete history or roll back content via unvalidated GET requests. Attackers can lure logged-in backend users to a page triggering func=clearall or rex_history_function=snap, permanently deleting all article snapshots or reverting articles to earlier states.
